CHP tarihinin en zor dönemlerinden birini yaşıyor. Meşruiyetini artık sandıktan çok elitler arası pazarlıklardan üretmeye çalışan iktidar, tek gerçek rakibi olarak gördüğü CHP’yi yargı operasyonlarıyla sindirmeye çalışıyor. Çünkü normal şartlarda artık sandıkta kazanma ihtimali pek kalmadı.

Parti bir yandan Cumhuriyet rejimini korumak için mücadele ederken, diğer yandan iktidarla işbirliği yapan bir grubun eline düşme tehlikesiyle karşı karşıya. Bu ihtimal, partinin kapanmasından bile daha acı ve yıkıcı.

Bu ortamda Anıtkabir’de yapılan bu kitlesel gösterinin hayli sembolik olduğunu düşünüyorum. Son 15 yılda zaman zaman bazı CHP'li isimler bile bunu unutturmaya çalıştı; ama en zor anda hem partinin lider kadrosu hem de tabanı için asıl referans ve meşruiyet kaynağının ne olduğu çok net biçimde ortaya çıkıyor.

🌍 #Zelensky in #Damascus, with #Fidan in the room, is probably the most revealing diplomatic image since the Iran war began. This wasn't a courtesy visit.

Three things are happening at once, and none of them is really about #Ukraine and #Syria.

🤝 #Kyiv is trading battle-tested drone expertise for political capital across the Middle East. Post-#Assad Syria has no meaningful air defense against Iranian drones. Ukraine has exactly what #Damascus needs and desperately wants partners and markets.

🇹🇷 #Turkey didn't just show up in the meeting room. Despite good relations with Putin during the #Russia-#Ukraine war, Turkey has deliberately combined its policy of balancing relations with Ukraine with the sphere of influence it has built up in Syria since the start of the civil war. #Ankara is positioning itself as the architect of a new regional order, giving Ukraine access it couldn't build alone while ensuring any new framework runs through Istanbul.

🇺🇦 However, Fidan, sitting on the same side as the Ukrainian delegation — quite literally — and taking part in security cooperation talks with Syria almost on #Ukraine's behalf, could risk Turkey's relations with Russia. As Turkey seeks to consolidate its position in the search for a new regional order, this could undermine the balance it has maintained with #Russia.

🔻 But the real story is Russia. "Unhappy" doesn't cover it. Sharaa has visited Moscow twice since coming to power — #Moscow still has cards to play in Syria. But the Iran war has accelerated a trend that was already uncomfortable for the Kremlin: Assad in exile, his successor now hosting #Zelensky, and the Russian bases in Syria quietly being earmarked for conversion. Russia hasn't lost the Middle East, but it is watching its position erode faster than it can manage.

👁️ #Israel is the quiet variable here. #Sharaa has condemned Iranian aggression, which suits #TelAviv just fine. But Ukrainian military technology flowing into Syrian institutions is a different conversation entirely — and one Israel will not ignore for long.

From my prison cell in Silivri, I have written to the leaders of the European Union to underline the urgent need to modernize the Türkiye–EU Customs Union.

The Customs Union remains the only rules-based and normative framework underpinning Türkiye–EU relations. Yet today, it risks becoming unsustainable if it is not updated in line with global economic transformation and geopolitical realities.

In the wake of EU free trade agreements with Mercosur and India, the asymmetrical consequences for Türkiye have become increasingly visible. New EU industrial and trade policies are also creating structural imbalances that affect Turkish industry and economic stability.

Our most important trading arrangement remains unreformed despite profound changes in the global economy. Modernizing it is not only an economic necessity but also a geopolitical one.

I firmly believe that economic integration and democratic reform must advance together. The entry into force of a modernized Customs Union will naturally depend on concrete progress in democracy and the rule of law.

Türkiye’s European future remains a strategic objective. Türkiye’s eventual EU membership would significantly enhance Europe’s ability to address increasingly complex geopolitical and economic challenges.

Democratic renewal in Türkiye is not a distant aspiration. It is an urgent imperative.

Now that protests are spreading throughout the country, we’ll see if the security forces can contain them, or if the crowds grow larger. Another main difference is that today’s youngsters are much worse off economically and hopeless than people were in 2013.

Don’t underestimate the danger the ongoing nationwide protests pose to Erdoğan’s regime. Whereas the 2013 Gezi protests were uncoordinated, Turkey’s leading party, which controls local government in all but one of the top 15 metropolises, is openly encouraging people to take to the streets.

Whereas the economy was booming in 2013, now inflation is crushing people on fixed incomes.

Erdoğan’s party is weaker, too. Its support had fallen from the low 50s to the low 40s.

Even more critical, in 2013 the opposition had no one who came close to Erdoğan in charisma and accomplishments. Now, Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has beaten Erdoğan’s handpicked candidate three times in elections for Istanbul mayor, is more popular than Erdoğan himself; he’s also much younger. By jailing İmamoğlu, Erdoğan has shown that he’s afraid to go head-to-head with him.

Yes, Erdoğan controls massive fire power. But using it against demonstrators could backfire. It could alienate even his base. It could split his regime.

Erdoğan is facing the biggest, and just possibly the last, test of his political career.

After weeks of intense pressure from government circles, Turkey’s oldest university has annulled the college diploma of the opposition’s frontrunner and current mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, in a blatant attempt to block his presidential bid.

This move is a clear indication that Erdoğan fears an İmamoğlu candidacy and acknowledges that he may lose the election—even in an already skewed political landscape.

If the annulment decision is upheld by the Constitutional Court, it would mark Turkey’s further descent into a hegemonic authoritarian regime where government turnover is no longer possible through the ballot box.

İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanımız, yol arkadaşım Sn. Ekrem İmamoğlu’nun hukuka ve tüm mevzuata uygun diplomasının iptal edilmesine ilişkin karar sonrası Türkiye demokrasisi maalesef bir başka evreye geçmiştir.

Hatırlatmak gerekir ki İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanımız Ekrem İmamoğlu, partimizin cumhurbaşkanı adayını belirleme yetkisine anayasal olarak sahip TBMM Grubumuzun büyük çoğunluğunun verdiği imzalarla; Parti Meclisimizin Cumhurbaşkanı adayımızı belirlemek için yöntem olarak öngördüğü ön seçime katılma hakkı elde etmiştir.

Demokrasiye uygun olmayan bir biçimde rakipleri devreden çıkarmak öncelikli olarak Türkiye’ye ve on yıllarca yıl kurumsallaştırmaya çalıştığı demokrasisine yapılabilecek en büyük kötülüktür. Ekrem İmamoğlu’nun diplomasının iptali; Hukuki istikrar, hukuk devleti ilkelerine aykırıdır. Buna izin vermek bu ülkeye ve demokrasisine yapılan en büyük ihanettir.

İstanbul Üniversitesi’nin bugün verdiği karara karşı tüm hukuki sürecin işletileceğini ve Genel Merkezimiz öncülüğünde Anayasa’yı yok sayan, hukuku ayaklar altına alan bu karara karşı gereken adımların atılacağını herkesin bilmesini isteriz.

İmamoğlu’nun hukuk ve demokrasi dışı bir zorlama ile adaylık hakkının elinden alınmasına sessiz kalacağımızı ya da bundan hoşlanacağımızı kimse düşünmesin.
Ben Ekrem Başkanımıza yapılan bu haksızlığı kabul etmiyorum.
Tüm bu hukuki ve siyasi sürecin her dakikasında Ekrem Başkanımızın yanında olacağımı, böylesine hukuksuz bir süreçte daha önce üçlü masada ifade ettiğim “Cumhurbaşkanlığı adaylığımı günü gelince değerlendireceğim” kararımı, bu hukuksuzluk ortadan kalkana kadar ASKIYA alacağımı da kamuoyuna ilan ediyorum.

Ayrıca, yaşanan tüm adaletsizliklere ve demokrasi dışı müdahalelere karşı sessiz kalmayacağız. En güçlü mücadeleyi de Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi olarak, milletvekili grubumuzla, il başkanlarımızla, örgütümüzle, belediye başkanlarımızla, tüm üyelerimizle ve demokrasiye inanan tüm yurttaşlarımızla vereceğimizden kimsenin de şüphesi olmasın.

CHP içindeki dayanışma duygumuzu ise kimse küçümsemesin ve bizlerin, en büyük makamlar karşısında bile bu birlikteliği kaybetmeyeceğimizi unutmasın. Hele, ‘selden kütük kapmaya’ çalışanlarla bizleri aynı tutmaya kalkmasınlar.

Türkiye’de hukukun üstünlüğüne gölge düşüren her adımın karşısında olmaya, adalet ve demokrasi mücadelesini sürdürmeye devam edeceğiz. Ekrem başkanım; haklı mücadelenizin sonuna kadar yanınızdayız. @ekrem_imamoglu
