Very happy & relieved that there was no NRS game reveal at SGF. Whatever is next, I really want them to take their time. We need an MK9 level refresh/back to basics of MK, as well as with whatever the potential next IJ/DC game looks like. "MK2" or "IJ3" isn't big enough, IMO.
@SMGxPrincessirl May be a lame answer, but I'm not sure I'm ready for whatever is next from NRS. They have a lot to prove IMO, and I'm not sure whatever is to follow MK1 will have had enough time to learn lessons from the last game. The current gaming trends/landscape is rough. Here's hoping...
@TheSpineRip A little too robotic IMO. Prefer just a bit more ninja flare in the design. At least the loin cloth flap things.
I think the Kameo classic looks were awesome, and still have a soft spot for the DA look.
I do like having unique helmet designs for each. Sektor's is neat.
@PhilDL616 Brock has had like 3 different match formulas on repeat for a decade+.
1. Suplex City/F5 Spam
2. ~5 minute juggernaut clash
3. David vs. Goliath
I don't understand the appeal. And I don't udnerstand why we need to build his stock. Oba should have swept him 3 matches in a row.
@TreyWae It is indeed fun. It just has many flaws that I don't think get acknowledged enough. And we're feeling those flaws especially now. MK11 exacerbated them, & 1 has been a clear tipping point for many fans. Retcons & Time shenanigans have led to a lot of fatigue & identity crisis.
I think MK9 gets away with murder story wise, being a nostalgia revisiting. Cool to revisit MK1-3 in cutscene form, but the retcons, wild character shifts, & timeline nonsense...those seeds were planted in MK9.
MK9 is GOATed for its gameplay, presentation, roster etc. though!
MK:SM needs a remake.
MK9 could use a remaster.
In general, I just want to see the franchise recapture its roots. A lot of franchises are finding big success going back to a more classic feel/presentation. MK9 was a huge course correct because of that approach. ๐งต
@LeBeauJauneRoi What was more damaging, IMO, was that they marketed it as a clean slate, but then by the game's end we were right back to multiverse/time shenanigans. Established weird character changes that weren't sustainable going forward. It was a false new era. Now we need an actual reboot.
For a lot of fans, the continual reliance on retcons, multiverse, & wild character changes(Kuai as Scorpion???), on top of barebones content/live service/MTX, has really left us feeling burned by the franchise we have loved for decades.
MK13 needs to be a huge return to form.
Historically, MK's 4th installment in each cycle has had elements that didn't resonate with fans. MK4, MKvsDC, and now MK1. Then it's followed up by a big course correct/return to roots to regain the hype. Deadly Alliance, MK9...so whatever is next needs to be in that same vein.
