Live piracy needs a response while the event is still on. As the EU considers new copyright measures, clear takedown deadlines & enforceable duties for intermediaries should be central.

OPEN LETTER FROM News/Media Alliance https://t.co/yymfwsZaoq
AI copyright lawsuits are coming thick and fast. In just the last couple of weeks:
- USA Today & 18 other papers sued OpenAI
- around 300 authors sued Meta
- a pair of musicians sued Black Forest Labs
The Black Forest Labs one is particularly interesting - I wouldn't be surprised if much bigger music rights holders follow suit.
The pace of arrival of these lawsuits is speeding up, not slowing down.
The US Chamber of Commerce is urging Congress to update anti-piracy enforcement, citing links to malware, fraud and organised crime.

If you're a business or artist with intellectual property, watch the clock.
10 days until Meta claims the right to scrape your website to develop its AI. Your consent? Apparently unnecessary. All it takes is someone sharing a link on Facebook or Instagram - or you using Meta's services.
Be it your content or the stolen goods, platforms act only under duress.

Anthropic exploits the work of millions of creatives without paying them.
This is not absolved by donating a fraction of the ill-gotten gains to the ‘public good’.
If you want to work for the ‘public good’, start by not exploiting people.
