Tomorrow (7 July) a formation of Puma helicopters will mark 50 years of @RoyalAirForce service with a flypast over various locations.
The maps provide an illustrative example of the route and approx timings.

Carrying the First Allied Airborne Army, more than 1500 C-47 transport aircraft took off from 24 different airfields across England, together with 478 gliders and 1130 fighter escort planes.

The weather was clear. It was a perfect day for a jump. We should note, however, that jumping in daylight and landing so far from the objectives took away the element of surprise that would ideally benefit airborne operations.

On 17 September 1944, with approval granted by General Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe, OPERATION MARKET GARDEN commenced.
17 Sept 1944: 1st Airborne Division lands near Arnhem, tasked to capture the Rhine bridge until relieved by XXX Corps.
The tanks never arrived, but troops held out for 9 brutal days before withdrawing.
Their actions set the standard of #airborne bravery and commitment.

Landing Craft Tank 7074 has been successfully transported by road to The D-Day Story. Visitors will be able to go on board and explore this amazing ship when it opens to the public later in the year @NatMuseumRN#LCT7074
