H/t @ChrisBloomstran To put it in perspective when Berkshire Hathaway stock was very overvalued and a significant part of its equity was highly valued Coca-Cola stock they issued 22% more shares outstanding to buy General Re which also brought them a lathe fixed income portfolio and reduced the weight of the KO position .
@Neb2323 Or you could believe that Ruth Porat knows that $80bn would be too large for a debt issue and would ruin their borrowing rates in the future . π€·ββοΈ
@andrewcoye@Hesterfield_ I had misunderstood what you were saying . May well be that Ted made the initial investment decision on Google and Warren/ Greg decided to size it up .
@andrewcoye@Hesterfield_ Ted is meant to be running $20bn . The value of the Google stake ( both classes of stock ) is $22 bn at close . I doubt this is Tedβs .
However I am looking at CBβs 2025 letter now , see p148 onwards he uses 4 different methods for calculating Berkshireβs IV and his preferred method is sum of the parts not the net income basis . These cone to between $560 and $585 per share .
Last year is sum of the parts was $520 and it traded if i recall as high as $540 before the announcement that Buffett was stepping down at year end .
@andrewcoye Andrew , would you mind sharing what accounts for the big difference between @ChrisBloomstran calculation of $570 IV per share versus your $485 number . This is quite a big difference - about $150 bn off the top of my head ?
