Extend their contracts so that the new coach doesn't demand new signing in their positions to improve the squad. Kaizer Chiefs modus operandi๐
We were told preparations for this transfer window started 6 months ago. Supporters are still waiting to see tangible evidence of that planning. If we really knew we needed to keep aboSolomons and Bvuma, why are we still dealing with their contracts now when we should be finalizing and announcing deals with players from outside?
The Kaizer Chiefs management sat down and decided the best way to improve a squad that wants to challenge for the league was to hand contract extensions to Bvuma, Solomons and Kwinika. You bring a coach who believes in players who can use the ball, instead of improving profiles on that RB, you give an extention to the 1 player in that defense who is very poor technically and also struggles to use his brains in possession?
Don't get me wrong, I like Solomons and Kwinika, just as I support every player who wears the Kaizer Chiefs badge and will continue to do so. But that's not the standard we should be chasing. This is another sign of a management that's preparing us for yet another mediocre transfer window with average signings. We need players who elevate the starting XI, not players who simply add the numbers, but we give contracts to players who don't even make the bench. The qualities they offer can be found in our DDC graduates, yet we continue occupying those squad spaces with older players who don't grow each passing year.
I'm sure we'll soon be hearing about Sibongiseni Mthethwa as well getting 2 years or so or Pule Mmodi. We already have players like Paseka Mako and Siphesihle Ndlovu, who have shown over and over again that they are not the calibre required to improve this team. They will never be the kind of players you rely on to dominate any matches or win league titles, yet we keep adding more players of the same standard.
At Kaizer Chiefs, it feels like the only way to leave is to reach 35 years of age. If you're respectful and professional, another contract is usually waiting for you by default, regardless of whether you're still good enough to help the team compete for major honours. That suggests a club struggling to recruit genuine quality and instead choosing the comfort of familiarity.
Meanwhile, the teams we're supposed to be competing with are strengthening their squads with players who immediately raise the level and create genuine competition for places. That's how standards improve and complacency is eliminated.
At Kaizer Chiefs, we extend contracts for players who don't significantly improve the team, then sign more players who aren't good enough to replace them. Coaches are left selecting from the same average pool of players, and the cycle of underachievement continues.
Supporters aren't asking for miracles. We're asking for evidence that the planning, scouting and recruitment we've been hearing about are translating into a squad capable of competing for league titles, not just maintaining the status quo. A team that won 3 trophies announced 7 new signings, we are busy trying to keep underperformers because we have no idea what it takes to take this team back to the top.
We wait for more excuses for poor squad building. What a shame.
