“People shouldn’t have to earn kindness. They should have to earn cruelty.” -Maggie Stiefvater, Forever. English Language and Linguistics. mama. she/her
🚨 BREAKING: Ed Miliband says the UK agrees that there is "ethnic cleansing" in parts of the West Bank
"The Israeli Government has turned a blind eye to this, and worse, members of it have taken action to support the forced displacement of Palestinians"
The term “witch hunt” is overused in politics. Perhaps not this time. Quite a bit of the British media should ask themselves some serious questions as to whether the tenor and volume of the coverage they gave to this man was remotely proportionate. Likewise there are questions for Cambridge- and whether they discharged their duty of care.
@Susan4914236844@BladeoftheS Well I wouldn’t argue so, because I don’t vote for them. But Labour clearly think he’s the best man for the job and he’s going for it uncontested so none of the rest of them think they’re better. When they are giving us a prime minister for another like 3 years I don’t care
🚨 NEW: Reform UK have asked activists to travel to Clacton to help Nigel Farage instead of campaigning in the Manchester Mayor election
"We now need all of our fantastic activists, branch officers and councillors to come and help us in Clacton"
[@JoshHalliday]
@Susan4914236844@BladeoftheS Don’t like that either and think it’s embarrassing Labour didn’t have anyone good enough at the job in the party already. But ultimately I’d rather the best person at the job be chosen (even if it’s Labour)
in a time of unimaginable cruelty towards people living with AIDS, when nurses would leave trays of food on the floor outside their hospital rooms, princess diana transformed public perception by simply hanging out with them and treating them like people
Because we’ve underfunded and undervalued the sector for so long it’s been decimated until the point that we can’t even facilitate adequate ratios. Blame the previous government
So let me see if I have this straight. A care home sends a mentally disabled man on a trip to the zoo with only two people to mind him. He gets away from them and throws a toddler down a 15 foot drop into a pit full of crocodiles. The police then release him back to the same people who let him get away from them in the first place.
How is ANY of that acceptable? Do they not have secure mental health facilities for the criminally insane? It’s hard to think of a better example of criminal insanity than throwing a toddler into a crocodile enclosure without understanding what you did. The facility he’s currently in clearly doesn’t take appropriate precautions to protect the general public from his behavior. I refuse to believe that this is the only time he’s ever been violent.
@laycon988@PolitlcsUK Yeah most of my friends on mat leave/ coming back from it have their companies banged to rites, but nothing they can do with that with court taking so long etc
@Thiohna@drew94carter96 It’s one thing to choose to when finding out after birth, it’s another to say you can’t handle disabilities and abort, but then try again.
And yes it does impact me since I’m in training to be a foster parent and will look after kids from parents that shouldn’t have had them
@Thiohna@drew94carter96 You can’t guarantee a child that isn’t is the point. When you choose to be a parent you sign up for everything come what may, whether that’s diagnosed in the womb, evident at birth, or developed. Don’t just “try again” fucking know your limitations and stop getting kids stuck
@eatbeatrepeatt@isakismyking0@Thiohna@drew94carter96 Yeah exactly. Love that once the reality hit that they couldn’t handle a disabled kid they looked at their options and there was one there. And I can’t force them not to get pregnant, but I can say they shouldn’t be parents.
