📣 Education Authority Launches Principal Advisors Programme to Strengthen Specialist Provision in Schools.
Since 2020, EA has worked with schools across Northern Ireland to create over 6,000 additional SEN places.
The Education Authority has launched a new peer-to-peer leadership support programme designed to help schools establish and sustain Specialist Provision for pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
The Principal Advisors programme will see five principals with experience in developing specialist provision classes working part-time as Principal Advisors to designated schools as they establish classes to support young people with SEN in their local community.

@harrismonkey I've just bought a 2010 Caterham R500. I've seen your YouTube review of it from years ago.
I am tracking it next week. Is it as mad/bad as they say??! Also any tips for the track with it?! Many thanks Chris!
The annual "SEN Hunger Games," as aptly described by a parent, has begun. Parents of children with SEN face another summer of anxiety as they battle for appropriate school placements. It's the same story, year after year. #EducationForAll
@CArchibald_SF We acknowledge the funding challenges, but the @Ed_Authority is legally obligated to ensure proper placements for children with SEN. Our children suffered disproportionately from cuts under @chhcalling punitive 23/24 budget. We will not tolerate a repeat.
We knew things were bad, but this report reveals situation is beyond staggering. Spend per child pails in comparison to all other jurisdictions in UK. It's unacceptable. The ramifications of stop start governance are now painfully evident, & it’s our children who are suffering.
What we learned from
@Education_NI evidence session: Not a crisis (despite others saying so). 1000 new school places needed, but schools hesitant to come forward (prob due to staffing & resource issues). @Education_NI & @healthdpt lack coordination, & no End2End review timeline
Today, Education Minister @paulgivan told MLAs that the position in 2024 is “extremely challenging” with more than 1,000 additional SEN places in schools needing to be found in Northern Ireland by September.
Positive meeting with Paul Kavanagh of @SENreformNI
Addressing the SEN crisis is an absolute priority for my office and I. We are committed to representing the views of children and parents.
I am calling on urgent action from @paulgivan@Education_NI@Ed_Authority@healthdpt
Just released @CommonsNIAC report highlights the worrying state of SEN provision in NI. Persistent underinvestment has normalised the placement of children in unsuitable, ill-equipped mainstream settings & significant shortage of nursery places - all expected to worsen this year
At @NIACfEd meeting, @Education_NI outlined a long-term vision for SEN but failed to address the urgent needs of children currently in or entering the system, labeled 'in crisis' by @ChrisNICCY@ChildLawCentre & others. This lack of an immediate action plan is deeply concerning.
New NI Education Minister @paulgivan inherits a critical challenge: ensuring ALL children thrive, not just some. Past failures for SEN children can't be repeated. Equitable access to education should be the norm, not a fight. We need this Assembly to deliver for our children.
The UK government's neglect of NI is alarming & underscores the need to protect the rights of the most vulnerable in society, especially children with SEN. These rights limit the governments power to decimate public services with their punitive budgets. https://t.co/ckL6Y7qPBH
The amount of funding for special educational needs (SEN) in Northern Ireland is £65m less than what is needed this year, a report from the Department of Education says. https://t.co/Z25DqIxUis
an entitlement to therapies and the curriculum. The right to education is an actual Human Right protected by, amongst other laws, the European Convention on Human Rights. If a child loses out on that right to education, such a breach can be compensated in a number of different..
