My kiddo stopped talking as a result of the trauma he suffered. He communicated by barking. For months I didn't understand why. Until a stranger asked him.
He barked because everyone likes dogs, so he thought if he acted like a dog...the staff would like him.

Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has told of her written letter to the Health Minister to ask for clarity on the availability of mirvetuximab soravtansine to treat ovarian cancer.
She said it is another example of women and their families being “failed” by the Northern Irish health system.
@PatSheehanMLA Inspectors couldn't enter classrooms... how would an ETI Inspector have therefore seen the 6ft by 4ft empty storeroom my son was being locked alone in daily without having access to classrooms?
The school didn't deem its use as a safeguarding concern.
As the parent of a child who was subjected to serious safeguarding failures during ASOSA and who is still fighting for change in regards what was allowed occur...
I tend to disagree that safeguarding was a "red herring" within this weeks legislative debate.
EA has launched a public consultation on our Refreshed Draft Framework for Specialist Provision in Schools.
Since our original Framework in 2021, we've created over 6,000 new SEN places, specialist provision classes have grown from 214 to 720 classes across Northern Ireland. Our refreshed Framework sets out how we plan to expand provision for children and young people with SEN. Have your say by 30 July 2026

“She cared about people and she fought for the rights of others. She had an independence of spirit. The picture is of a strong, loving, independent young woman. She knew what she wanted from life and was not inhibited from enjoying her life on her own terms.” - Mr Justice Kinney.

@GLarkinAuthor@NewtonEmerson@paulgivan Sorry I missed this reply, ironically I have been working on my response to the restrictive practices consultation from a lived experience perspective of raising safeguarding concerns during ASOSA...
All I can say is I have tweeted from our direct lived experience.
Couple of points -
Art 4(1)(c) still exists which allows force to be used for the "maintenance of good and discipline"
Seclusion will continue as a restrictive practice through the undocumented and therefore unregulated titles of isolation, internal suspension & detention
@GLarkinAuthor@NewtonEmerson@paulgivan Yes, I am aware.
For the sake of clarity... was ETI permitted to enter classrooms? To inspect/evaluate for themselves?
Were these proformas the foundation of the information provided to ETI during AOSA inspections?
@GLarkinAuthor@NewtonEmerson@paulgivan So the current gathering of child protection information is a self evaluation? Assessed by self? (the school in question)
@GLarkinAuthor@NewtonEmerson@paulgivan Would "unsatisfactory" be considered appropriate in any other setting in regards safeguarding? Aka the home?, a hospital?, a care home? Etc
Is/was safeguarding a self assessment?
If so, would you consider a self assessment appropriate in any other setting?

It's not anti teacher to want appropriate legislation to ensure that childrens safeguarding can never be a bargaining chip when it comes to industrial action ever again
You can support the right to protest working conditions whilst also supporting a childs right to be safeguarded
Later today, Stormont will vote on Paul Givan's Education Bill.
The bill contains a number of proposals around school inspections - but buried within it is a provision to sanction teachers for taking industrial action. This is a dangerous precedent.
