@Aspizc @reiterator @CaseyNewton Agree to all of this, especially about the motivation. I'd be surprised if the code was low quality. Most engineers could understand what it does. The why is not always something you can infer. It is probably going to be a challenge for them.

@a_trenix @CaseyNewton That is a risk for sure. Especially with smaller IT teams, there is more of a chance that domain knowledge will be lost.
My guess is that there is a lot of scripted builds over there. Probably some people puzzling over some terraform as we speak.

@justnidhal @CaseyNewton SME are always handy for keeping things performing as they are or were. They are not innovators. I don't advocate for people to be fired...Musk is a disruptor. I think for this reason, he will accept more risk. Part of that might be casting out SMEs who protect the status quo.

@justnidhal @CaseyNewton I agree that domain knowledge is helpful. Especially nice if you know where all the bodies are buried. When you lose those people, you suffer a little but, you also get rid of the people who buried the bodies to begin with. Sometimes you get addition by subtraction.
