This comment from a reader today illustrates why @insolvencygovuk needs to dramatically reduce the £680 fee for bankruptcy. In most cases people go bankrupt BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO MONEY. How hard is that to understand?
@GouldsBlog The question then is “ Who misled the Court?”
Did the PO witnesses lie or did the lawyers allow the Court to proceed on the basis that Horizon (a computer) could not be wrong when they knew of evidence to the contrary?
Or is there another explanation?
@hilaryosborne@pcollinson We sure do. And a VAT and self-assessment strategy. We can’t find back rent, back VAT, back SA and pay back debts all next Spring. Ain’t gonna happen
@APPGbanking Does he know enough about how small businesses manage?
22 years at GS is not entrepreneurial experience nor experience of funding small businesses. It’s 22 years of high-level mega-finance deals and massive pay/bonus. Does he understand juggling VAT or wages?
Holy Moly. Post Office reviewing 500 Horizon-related criminal convictions OUTSIDE of the 61 currently lodged at the Criminal Cases Review Commission. This is huge.

500! That’s industrial-scale stuff.

@KennedyLoulou Definitely recommend this thread for all lawyers. No reason specifically for lawyers but they are a subset of “everyone” and really it’s everyone who should read this.
Sorry, 🙂, except Chefs who know this stuff. I’d like to print it out tbh 🤓
@APPGbanking@AlokSharma_RDG A business like mine. Sole trader solicitor.
Completely worthless to society except I pay tax and help small businesses navigate these storms
@MartinSLewis No. It’s a stupid idea. Conserve cash as much as possible. “savings for tax” are not “savings”. HMRC has been haranguing everyone for years that VAT is not your money to use in cashflow (until now) and neither is money you have allocated to pay your tax.
@RJScholes @efgbricklayer 1000s of businesses will need protection from their banks. Sadly, instead of industrywide, sectorwide, areawide moratoria on enforcement, the government will allow, if not enable, the banks to strip out the entire value of our economy down to the bones. Millions will be ruined
1.@BBCRadio4 800,000 businesses within 4 weeks of collapse because banks not making govt backed loans available. One woman said because she has a little equity in her house she doesn't qualify for #CIBL. Does government want economic life after #coronavirus? People are clinging
@Mark_Hague Everyone needs a moratorium at the moment. Better a few crooks get away with it than hundreds if not thousands of businesses fail because of lack of forbearance or protection
Big banks need to stop ringing people like me who don’t need any money & start ringing businesses & people who bloody do
Same happened in 2008 crisis. I wrote about it in my book
Banks only want to lend to people who are rock solid & they dont need it
