With the announcement of the Steel Ball Run adaptation I'd like to share some of the pictures I took a few years ago at the National Art Center in Tokyo when they were featuring Hirohiko Araki. I'm a huge fan of his work and can't wait to see the next chapter. Please enjoy some Jojo! (We were allowed to take photos of these portraits.)
One of the highlights of the Warsh Fed has been watching stenographers posing as journalists, like the WSJ’s Nick Timiraos, reduced to reporting Fed backroom gossip because they’re incapable of performing real economic or monetary policy analysis without being spoon-fed.
🇺🇸Bessent: “I look forward to seeing BOJ Gov Ueda at the G20 finance ministers' meetings”
Code for:
🇺🇸“Ueda- why in the fuck did you make me defend JPY publicly only to then not follow thru with the hike??”😡
“…because I didn’t realize you were >5x my height”🙄

At least USDJPY → 158-handle needed in order to trigger market self-sustaining short covering
Now is the perfect time for BOJ to shock rate hike- either actually doing so, or last min Nikkei press “leak” so & getting the same market outcome
Watch 🇯🇵2am/🇺🇸EST 1pm if the latter
🇯🇵 JPY: Yentervention currently underway
🇯🇵MOF taking advantage of 🇺🇸Fed - 🇯🇵BOJ “credibility spread” narrowing, post-🇺🇸Warsh / pre-🇯🇵Ueda
They’ll need to get USDJPY meaningfully back < 160 & flip the level from being a floor → being a ceiling again
Let’s see if they do
CHART OF THE DAY: The history of China's consumption of fossil fuels, from 1965 to 2025. Although as a share of total energy, fossil fuels has seen a decline, in absolute terms (in tonnes of coal, barrels of oil, and cubic meters of gas) demand set an all-time high last year.
Can't believe I'm about to defend Carney, but it has to be said. Blaming him for this past year of weak-to-zero growth is dumb.
The past 10 years of Canada's GDP growth have been 'fake'. It was due to immigration, which accounted for 75% of the growth in headline real GDP.
Carney has ended the open-borders experiment, which is a good thing, and I applaud him.
But that means that growth will be tied to productivity growth, which is in the toilet. Canada's productivity growth is in the toilet, in part because of many of the policies Carney championed, namely, the destruction of the global fossil fuel industry. If you are going to slag him off, I implore you to be more precise.
Podcast worlds collide! Two of the best hosts get together to discuss Canadian housing in the broader global macro context....@ronmortgageguy and @IceCapGlobal. This is too good!
Too Much Debt https://t.co/tgUJcdbdVa
The condo bailout is also a bank bailout. The fact that governments are pushing these egregiously unpopular policies suggests things are worse than they seem. This feels like Canada’s Big Short moment.
My thoughts: https://t.co/RzzvvM9NTH
Carney confirms details of the condo bailout. Lots of assumptions the government is getting such a great price. If that was the case the free market would’ve already absorbed these units.
Do you really think vulture funds wouldn’t have already done this?
Now we are learning that’s it really @Dave_Eby pushing for the condo bailout. The province is covering 90% of the funds.
The guy who got elected villainizing the developers is now bailing them out. Ironic.
2018: NDP cancels bridge plans already approved
2018-2021: NDP spends years reviewing alternatives.
2021: NDP announces a new 8-lane tunnel instead.
2024: NDP Selects a contractor to design and build the project.
2026: Still no tunnel construction. NDP Government terminates the contractor.
A masterclass in incompetence. 9 years later, same tunnel. https://t.co/yju4Ujx22v
