I don't know why...but I didn't even think of this sad detail till right now. I don't know how often Charlie read to his kids... But last night a widow had to tuck them into bed... And read them stories... As a father of a family and being similar age this hits me hard π
When we emphasize speculative theology over loving out the gospel the church has lost its way. Come to know God...love Christ...study the word...submit to God...live the faith. I don't care if you're a determinist... dispensational...traditional... Whatever. Just follow Christ.
If you genuinely believe that Calvinism is the gospel (you have to believe it to be saved), you have added to it, corrupted it, and Paul says you are anathema and severed from Christ.
Vestments and various aesthetic features of Church ceremony are not essential to the Anglican faith. They are adiaphora. Simple as that. You can be Anglican without vestments ...without candles...and without the ceremonial drapings. Don't make Anglicanism another Rome π€
Remember guys. Ezekiel tells Israel both to make their own new heart and new spirit and later says God give their new heart and new spirit.
Paul tells us that God makes vessels of dishonor and honor, and tells people to make themselves vessels of honor!
The Bible is clear π
@NickQuient Not gonna lie, as a Reformed individual Thomas Oden's Classical Christianity is still one of my favorite systematic theology volumes π₯π₯π₯
If you read Ephesians 2:1-10 and you don't see 1st Century Roman Patron-Client economy of grace then you're missing Paul's original intent of the passage π€·
Did you know that Christ's atonement can both be genuinely offered for all people, and particularly applied to those with true faith? π― See it's not that hard. Calvinists confuse and reduce the beauty of distinct eternal intentions of the atonement. YOU FOOLS!
Anselm's satisfaction theory of the atonement is essential to the gospel. If you reject this then you're a fool..............see how ridiculous this sounds? π€£π€£π€£
@HwsEleutheroi I agree with you that the voluntary sacrifice is necessary but I think Anselm's satisfaction theory an allowable view . Thoughts :) I haven't heard you talk about that
Without the scriptures there'd be no revelation to establish one's faith. Do not forget the church is the assembly of witnesses to the faith, not the truth the faith proclaims in of itself. scriptures reveal these truths to us.
Protestants appeal to the Bible, the Trinity, and the Incarnation as if these are self-evident truths, as if anyone with a Bible and good intentions would arrive at orthodoxy.
But they wouldnβt even know these doctrines without the Catholic Church.
The canon was declared at Rome, Carthage, Hippo, Florence, and Trent.
The Trinity was defined at Nicaea.
The Incarnation was clarified at Chalcedon.
They reject the Church, yet their entire faith depends on what the Church gave them.
And when left to private interpretation alone, orthodoxy collapses.
Thatβs how you get Jehovahβs Witnesses, Oneness Pentecostals, Mormons, thousands of denominations, and every other heresy spawned by Sola Scriptura.
The truth was declared, preserved, and defended by the Church Christ established, the one He promised the Spirit would guide and the gates of hell would never overcome.
Without that Church, there is no orthodoxy. Just opinions.
