Today marks 96 years since DPS graduated its first-ever class of recruits. It was on this day, in 1930, that 50 DPS Recruits officially joined the ranks of the Texas Highway Patrol. Many of them can be seen here – near the Texas State Capitol in Austin, a few days after graduation on Feb. 28, 1930, alongside brand-new motorcycles – the transportation of choice at that time.
