"I am quite certain that neither love nor grief can ever be excessive; each is its own absolute measure, and knows its own proper proportions. And, as a rule, we generally fail to love or grieve nearly as much as we ought to do."
~David Bentley Hart
@tippingidols I think that's wise, if you are edified by that kind of meditation. I suppose some people are not – I wish they would attempt to be before running to TV, but everybody is different.
~Half of conversations I have about Jesus these days ends up invoking The Chosen. "Did you see how The Chosen did it?"
I haven't seen The Chosen. No desire. But I wonder what the series has done to our spiritual imagination. Is it good to have "seen" these events in this way?
I think of when @PageauJonathan said that, if we could go back in time or find a video recording of the events in the gospels, we'd probably be pretty underwhelmed with what we saw. Indeed, many witnessed firsthand but did not believe.
Are Jesus' miracles things that can be impartially observed? Was the Resurrection something that could have been captured on camera?
Even if GOP keeps the Senate, this is getting into pyrrhic victory territory. $400M from one guy to prop up the most unpopular POTUS in a century? At best to hobble over the finish line with a 51/49 majority and House gone?
Trump will be as unpopular on Nov 4 as on Nov 2, no matter what happens. $400M for two years of lame duck nothing, and probably to make 2028 even harder.
I say it every two years: Early voting is an epic disaster waiting to happen.
Nobody should be voting in any election 2-3 weeks before votes are counted.
One day, a candidate will die or do something scandalous after millions have already voted, and all of his/her voters will want their vote back. Whether they get it or not, the resulting outcome will not be acceptable to the ultimate loser. Chaos will ensue.
Just a terrible idea, all around.
Wake up.
Every profession deemed white-collar, the middle class dream, is about to be decimated by AI, at a much faster pace than anticipated, with monstrous social consequences.
I mean, this is only true insofar as Elon's being 5X more "involved" is actually going to help his cause. He tried helping in WI last year and only made everything worse. His brand may already be electoral poison (we'll know after midterms), and more involvement will only happen if it's actually welcomed by those on his side.
Trump: "I alone could secure a prisoner release from Russia without giving anything in return"
Trump literally ten minutes later: "Now you idiots know why I had to waive sanctions on Russia, no shot I got that prisoner release otherwise"
@meyer0656 I think Nixon's primary victory was a big boon for Jolly, too. Most "analysts" suggested the opposite when she won, but she's mobilizing the voters that Jolly had (strategically) chosen to ignore, and they are going to vote for Jolly.
@helicopterdrops@TPCarney I also think Elon buying Twitter turned MAGA into an echo chamber. Started drinking their own Kool-Aid, living in fantasy-land. Chickens coming home to roost in the voting booths soon, tho.
"Anti-" is a relation. You can't know "anti-Christ" unless you know "Christ." The deeper you dive into just one side of that equation, the more wrong you're likely to be.
Thiel (allegedly) knows anti-Christ. Does Thiel know Christ? He should consider lecturing on that, next.
Another interesting night of people watching outside the last Anti-Christ lecture by tech billionaire Peter Thiel, including some of the biggest names from Tennessee's world of Christian nationalism. 1/2
