“Any country can be offshore to another.”
– @NickMathiason, co-director of @FinUncovered, said during #GIJC25.
Here he highlights how methodical asset tracing holds the powerful accountable, without relying on leaks: https://t.co/wNaF5dDqB0

🚨 #Nigeria: A new @PPLAAF investigation uncovered millions of dollars of dirty money was invested in luxury US real estate connected to former Nigerian National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki, previously indicted for misappropriating billions intended for the fight against Boko Haram. 🧵 #Dasukigate
REVEALED:
The King and Prince William are funding their private lifestyles by secretly levying millions of pounds a year of charges from the armed forces, the NHS, state schools, charities, mining companies and the general public.

Biggest class action claim ever heard in a UK court starts tomorrow. 620,000 people’s lives & businesses were devastated nine years ago when the Fundao mining-waste dam collapsed in Brazil's worst environmental disaster

Years ago, during my time at @Bellingcat, I created a Google Sheet to catalog online tools and resources. It's been amazing to see how far it has come. A newly revamped version was launched just this week. Explore it yourself here: bellingcat [dot] gitbook [dpt] io/toolkit
1/ In 2020, sanctioned businessman Dan Gertler and his associates launched a series of #SLAPP lawsuits against @PPLAAF, @Global_Witness, and @Haaretz following the “Undermining Sanctions” report and media articles based on information from whistleblowers @KokoGradi and @NavyMalela.
The two whistleblowers were sentenced to death in the Congo for revealing the information.

🔴 The Chevening scholarship is one of the few routes for Afghan students to study in the UK.
The foreign office has quietly suspended applications and won't tell us – or the alumni network – why.

No, not 💯 Elon. In the U.K. they’re not going round ‘finding people who’ve said something they disagree with and putting them in a f—king cage.’ Some people are being charged for inciting racial hatred and for organising acts of violence. It’s very specific, and it’s the law in most democracies including the US. For example, one person has pleaded guilty today to inciting an attack on a hotel housing asylum seekers: an attack which then took place. Another hotel was set on fire, with people still inside. Freedom carries responsibility: and freedom of speech carries with it the responsibility of each of us to use our words wisely and to be aware of the damage misinformation can cause. To be clear, criminal violence directed towards various communities in the U.K. was perpetrated as a result of malicious and specifically targeted misinformation online. And it’s a relief no-one was killed. Words matter. And yet here you are, running a huge information network, and all you can do is post 💯 over something you choose not to verify for accuracy, not alert people to it’s highly damaging nature. In fact, because of who you are, your 💯 gives it a stamp of approval in the eyes of those who seek validation for their actions. What we say and do has real consequences. That’s because we’re not in a matrix, we’re in real life, and sticking 💯 on a lie doesn’t turn it into truth.
And so it begins? Come on @UKLabour you can do better than this. What news of that Ethics & Integrity Commission? Or the Anti-Corruption Champion? FT: Labour donor gets senior Treasury post under Rachel Reeves https://t.co/cK6EB0im7W via @ft
.@HattonLloyd: “Can the Secretary of State set out what steps his Department is taking to throw open the books in British tax havens and implement public registers of beneficial ownership?”
@DavidLammy: “It is an issue that I intend to take up with full vigour. We were concerned that parts of the last Government were turning a blind eye to these issues. I hope to come forward with further proposals in the coming weeks.”
@AndrewmitchMP: “The Foreign Secretary will get full support from the Opposition in imposing open registers of beneficial ownership on the overseas territories.”
