There are those way too eager to push this thing forward. And the consensus seems to be that many are ignorant to the effects automoation and ai have on the world and then a large swath that are aware and just don't care, they fully believe in the disruptive aspect of this tech
$1,000 to anybody who convinces me to not work on buying AI safety researchers more time.
I'm trying to stress test this idea and destroy it before I invest time, energy, and money into this.
I will genuinely be glad if somebody convinces me to not work on this because I'd rather think of the crucial consideration now instead of 2 years later after a bunch of wasted effort.
In terms of common arguments and the counter arguments I find the most compelling:
- What about differential progress? Just work on slowing things down everywhere.
- How would you enforce slowing things down? We do it all the time. Slowing things down is so much easier than speeding things up. It's almost the default. We don't need it to be perfect. We just need more time.
- What about the compute overhang? At least one potential solutions: unpause slowly, not all at once. Also, just seems like another research direction - let's get people figuring out other possible solutions!
Also, that consideration is one small possibility compared to the overwhelming argument of we need more time.
There are very decent odds that superintelligent AI comes in the next few years right now, and we are not ready.
If it happens in the next few years, we're almost definitely doomed.
We haven't figured it out yet.
We need more time.
@Kat__Woods I fully agree with you. The emphasis has been on controlling market share, and profit. Political regulation will be very slow. I've been in discussion with my local representative and I am part of a tech company designed to help protect people from Deep Fake and GenAI.
@austin_rief If you reach a point in life when money doesn't matter you have a duty to others, it's not just paper for the majority of the world, it's the only legal means of eating well, sleeping comfortably and being moderately healthy. But for Bezos... other's quality should take priority
Let me know if it doesn’t look real.
I think it is massively disruptive and will only help big companies and stranger still what is beyond? What will grab our attention in the next 1-8 years that is even more disruptive than this type of #GenAI
AI will disrupt Hollywood (Part 27)📽️
Sora isn't available yet, but Creators have been generating cinema quality short films, trailers, and teasers with AI in just a few hours 🤯
10 wild examples:
@jpooch21 I also think of Payback and Frighteners. Saw both versions and it was one of those “ahhh this is why directors don’t get final say all the time.”
@rowancheung It’s not accurate to say this, the majority of that 800M was for other products not related to film prodiction. He was intending to create an entertainment center of restaurants and activities and venues as well as some more studio space but it wasn’t because of SORA
Welcome to the new age of bread & circus.🤡

@SGC_GameChanger Thanks for hosting an amazing event this week. You are providing a truly amazing resource for entrepreneurs like myself. I look forward to growing DAV-ID with the help of groups like yourself. #cybersecurity#GenAI#deepfake#iatse#sag
@GailSimone Galactus steps on the floor of a Waffle House gets his foot stuck by the generational syrup on the tile, cringes and cries, depression swells inside as he begins wondering if anyone else knows he has stepped foot into a Waffle House. The shame is eternal
Jon Stewart kicks off The Daily Show's election coverage with a wellness check on America's two chronologically challenged candidates: Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
@mattletiss7 100 years ago was the 1920’s, the Great Depression started then. That being said, I think taxes are absurd - but the true audacity is that nothing gets done with our taxes. Too many hands in the cookie jar and no work gets done. Our roads are a joke. Etc etc etc
@syntell “You’re the worst lawyer ever!”
“I got the mafia to not kill you. I talked your sentence down from life to two months probation! I’m the greatest lawyer ever!”
@elonmusk Every job is replaceable and arguably more cost effective to have an Optimus or similar robot do any and every task. It’s going to move fast, best to start adjusting now.
The newest Gold Rush will have companies vying for the most market share without concern for client and customer protections. Our excited endeavors into new areas should be navigated with concern for others and humanity. #ArtificialInteligence#ethics
