This is Dr. Cathy Flood, a professor and urogynecologist.
It is crucial that as we fight the disinformation coming from Danielle "I'm not a doctor" Smith about trans health care in Alberta, we also amplify experts and share their knowledge.

There is a concerted attack on evidence-based harm reduction interventions like the distribution of sterile drug use equipment. Decades of research has shown that distribution of sterile drug use equipment reduces HIV and hepatitis transmission, saving our health system $ - a 🧵
On Thank a Resident Day, here are a few things you may not know:
1. Residents work 60-80+ hours/week & make around $12-18 per hour. They get no extra pay for extra (residency) shifts.
2. They often work 28 hours straight & can be sleep deprived for much longer on “home call.”
A few thoughts on Danielle Smith's plan to restrict medical treatments to transgender youth.
As a lawyer, I don't pretend to have a detailed understanding of the medical science surrounding these courses of treatment.
But neither do policymakers, generally.

Well, so after multiple emails and DM’s I’m going to attempt to answer my own (rhetorical) question. Why aren’t physicians coming to Alberta to train as family physicians? A short thread. /1
268 unfilled residency positions in family medicine in the CaRMS match yesterday. Highest number ever.
We have a serious problem to manage together. Why are med students not choosing a career as a family doc (best specialty ever😀)?

RANT: Can we stop calling these feminine products & instead call them menstrual products? I don't feel extra feminine when I'm menstruating. Also- plenty of feminine people don't menstruate. We don't need a euphemism for period products because periods aren't dirty or evil.
Many patients don't know about the hidden paperwork and administrative duties that family doctors do.
Today I did the following (on my day off):
