Days after a devastating fire at a Goa nightclub claimed several lives and left many injured, BMC on Tuesday has announced a week-long --Special Fire Safety Drive across Mumbai to prevent any kind of similar tragedies during New Year festivities.

From December 22 to 28, the Mumbai Fire Brigade will inspect hotels, restaurants, pubs, bars, party halls, malls, banquet venues, gymkhanas, lodging establishments and star hotels—essentially every location expected to draw large crowds for year-end celebrations. Any establishment found violating fire-safety norms will face action under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006.
