आरक्षण केवल गरीबी दूर करने का कार्यक्रम नहीं, बल्कि पीढ़ियों से वंचित समाज को प्रतिनिधित्व देने का संवैधानिक अधिकार है और जिन सभी वर्गों को आरक्षण का अधिकार मिला है, उनका यह अधिकार हमेशा अटल रहेगा। लेकिन आज की सच्चाई यह भी है कि आर्थिक पिछड़ापन समाज में एक नई खाई और बड़े असंतोष का कारण बन रहा है। इसी आर्थिक हताशा का कुछ लोग अपनी राजनीतिक ताकत बढ़ाने के लिए इस्तेमाल करते हैं और उन समाजों के खिलाफ जानबूझकर द्वेष फैलाते हैं जिन्हें संवैधानिक रूप से आरक्षण मिला हुआ है।

इस सामाजिक खाई और असंतोष को दूर करने के लिए मेरा दृढ़ मत है कि EWS (आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर वर्ग) की आय सीमा ₹8 लाख से बढ़ाकर ₹12-15 लाख की जानी चाहिए, जिस पर हमारा मंत्रालय और नीति आयोग गंभीरता से विचार भी कर रहे हैं। आर्थिक विषमता को हल किए बिना सच्चे सामाजिक सौहार्द की कल्पना नहीं की जा सकती। हमारी सरकार ‘सबका साथ, सबका विकास, सबका विश्वास’ के मंत्र पर निष्ठा से काम कर रही है, जिसका लक्ष्य यही है कि गरीबी की आड़ में समाज में नफरत न फैले और हर कमजोर नागरिक को उसका न्यायपूर्ण हक़ मिल सके।
