"Young dentists are the future of this profession, but currently their morale is at rock bottom”
@NikkiPatel_ speaks to @BBCNews on how targets and underfunding risk cutting off the pipeline of young talent into NHS dentistry https://t.co/pOSZwiBWoy
@HenryPryor@TinaDaheley@timleunig@hmtreasury Good discussion but this won’t benefit young people in the long run. Over their lifetimes, they will pay far more. No one will feel like they fully own their home even if mortgage free, like being a leaseholder. The tax needs to be for a fixed term of say 10 years.
@natb990 15 months for 1st and 5 months for 2nd. Both right for me each time. 1st time felt daunting going back (but was fine soon as I got there) 2nd time I couldn’t wait to get out the door! You won’t forget anything, it’s like riding a bike so don’t worry at all about that 😊
@Lydiarosesteph @KateBurkeNHS £97/day, South Bucks, which includes all meals. Nappies/wipes extra. 7:30-6pm. There are some cheaper (and more expensive) options around but all have v long wait lists so need to register before baby is born
@drjeff_tooth @WheelerSimon @MCM_HEKSS@MiliDoshi7 I doubt many dentists (esp younger) can afford to work in the CDS anymore. CDS salaries aren’t keeping up with inflation so I assume it’s very hard for many to take that pay cut year upon year. Workforce shortages in NHS salaried posts will get worse in this economic climate
Anyone new to writing in dentistry shouldn’t miss this excellent New Writers workshop at the BDA on Tuesday 2 November -contact [email protected]@TheBDA
@J_bagpuss Had home visits day 1,5,10. Then nothing until 1 year check which was a postal questionnaire. Posted back but heard nothing. Told to contact them if I need them. But I’ve no idea what they are meant to do so no idea what I’m meant to contact them about 🤷♀️ @surreyhealth
@TheWholeT00th Massive. Where is the incentive to upskill/ opportunity for career progression working as a NHS dentist? The NHS contract won’t pay you any more if you spend £1000s upskilling and NHS pay doesn’t keep up with inflation. To retain NHS dentists, something has to change
@TheWholeT00th No, everywhere on social media is dentists complaining about NHS dentistry- the contract, remuneration etc. Students reading that will be put off v easily. Also student debt and high cost of living/ housing means people naturally are looking for options that pay more
@wendythedentist@digitaldentis@healthyopinion Varies session to session. We don’t have to follow the advice, of course, and can choose to see anyone F2F. I expect this isn’t a regional issue and capacity is to the brim in most 111 EDS services
@digitaldentis@wendythedentist@healthyopinion 111 EDS- we’ve been advised to prescribe if a face swelling seen via images/video, to ensure sufficient F2F time for others. Too many patients and not enough F2F appts- not right. Fallow time saving me otherwise 15 min appts. Couldn’t go back to that now
Speaking up for dentistry: we have just completed oral evidence to Review Body on Doctors and Dentists Remuneration.
NHS dentists need a fair deal on pay https://t.co/ZFrbnR0XxI
