Le New York Times révèle des choses troublantes aujourd'hui concernant la guerre de tarifs avec les Américains. Selon leurs sources, les Américains n'auraient fait aucune nouvelle demande concernant la protection de la langue et se montraient flexibles sur ces questions.

Pire encore, le Canada avait accepté de plier sur la protection du contenu culturel canadien, incluant les contenus en français.

Ces révélations sont en complète contradiction avec ce que le gouvernement fédéral et le premier ministre du Canada nous ont dit. Tout ceci à l'aube d'une élection, dont les répercussions pourraient être très importantes pour notre avenir.

Carney won't go to bat for Alberta and Saskatchewan, and for the economy in general, for a massive, private sector pipeline that would bring up to $30B/year to Canada. He has to be persuaded to do it -- it's not something he wants to do.

Doug Ford is very bravely asking Alberta to stop selling oil to the United States.

Illegal, unconstitutional, would destroy the rule of law and sanctity of contract, would turn Canada into an untrustworthy banana republic, would elicit an unprecedented American response, etc., etc.

But why doesn't Ontario do something actually within its power: stop importing oil from the U.S.

100% of Ontario's oil comes from the U.S. -- either directly from the U.S., or from western Canada, and then through the U.S. up to Ontario. But it all comes via the U.S.

So why is he recommending the insane approach where all the burden falls on Alberta?

To Carney, building a pipeline to export Alberta oil is a burden, something he needs to be convinced to do by America. They have to give him something to do it.

Alberta's interests don't matter. Alberta is simply a bargaining chip.
