To prevent students from pursuing fields that do not align with Burkina Faso's job market, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has decreed that any Burkinabe student wishing to study abroad must now obtain government authorization.

The goal is for the state to monitor their training, ensuring it meets Burkina Faso's needs, and to better facilitate the students' reintegration upon graduation.

In many African countries—Cameroon in particular—curricula are often not designed to match national needs.

Burkina Faso aims to avoid scenarios where home projects require a road engineer, cybersecurity technician, electrician, or scientist, only to have to hire foreign manpower.

The country needs skilled individuals who can build roads, operate mines, manage factories and cybersecurity systems, pilot planes, and handle agricultural machinery, among other tasks.

As the country focuses on development, literature and other non-technical subjects are not a current priority.

This is why Burkina Faso's Minister of Higher Education, Adjima Thiombiano, stated: "Whether students receive scholarships or use their own funds to study abroad, they must obtain prior authorization from the Ministry of Higher Education."
