Anti-parasitic seet calls in female yellow warblers: a quasi-replication study! By @Bird_Sock@JaniceEnos2@NikoMendesBio @birdsoundscapes https://t.co/8n7rktnidz
Here it is, perhaps the coolest bird biology photo I have ever taken (I am so so very excited!!)-- a female Brown-headed Cowbird inspecting an American Robin nest!
Cowbirds can be quite secretive when they are looking to parasitize nests, I'm so lucky to see them in action!
Now with pagination! Thesis chapter @iBioIllinois on yellow warblers and cowbirds is an @nsf funded publication by @Bird_Sock@JaniceEnos2@NikoMendesBio and @birdsoundscapes is now in the May issue of Ethology! https://t.co/koV6qm1ZHP
Score another one for the Yellow Warbler Squad (@cowbirdlab@JaniceEnos2 @birdsoundscapes @NikoMendesBio)! Our quasi-replication playback study on female Yellow Warblers was just accepted into the upcoming special issue in Animal Behavior and Cognition 🥳 Stay tuned for more...

Coming from the Great Lakes area I have a bias against lampreys, but these guys are actually native and both ecologically and culturally important! We released this one back into the river and it burrowed into the substrate.
Got the opportunity to catch an anadromous Pacific Lamprey in its larval/ammocoetes stage! As ammocoetes they're filter feeders; they don't develop their infamous teeth until they begin their journey downstream!
When do you cry “cowbird” if you’re a male Yellow Warbler? Find it out from @Bird_Sock@JaniceEnos2@NikoMendesBio @birdsoundscapes in Ethology https://t.co/HQJs9OePrO
After some big rains I had the pleasure of finding a couple rough-skinned newts (Taricha granulosa)! This little fella hid under some leaves when he noticed me.
I have a tome of birds from 1936, and I found this gem of a caption: “A fierce destroyer, but a splendid success as a bird” They don’t make books like this anymore 😂
Congrats to @skwinnicki@NickAntonson@DiseaseEcology and colleagues on new paper to track flexible cowbird growth in host nests across the full nesting period. Coming soon to you all in Canadian J Zoology @GrowBirdGrow
