Many of these points are valid from a narrow military-planning lens. But they underestimate how authoritarian systems actually collapse. Regimes don’t fall only when protests are visible or when a fully formed opposition is waiting in the wings. They fall when fear breaks, legitimacy erodes, and coercive institutions can no longer sustain the cost of repression.
Iran today is not stable; it is brittle. The absence of mass protests reflects exhaustion and terror, not consent. History shows that targeted pressure on coercive pillars, combined with internal delegitimization and international isolation, can accelerate collapse without requiring a “silver bullet.” The risk is real, but so is the cost of allowing a violent, unreformable regime to survive indefinitely.
