EXCLUSIVE: We hear that New Line has landed ‘The Watchers,’ a project from Ishana Night Shyamalan which will mark her feature directorial debut and which she adapted from the A.M. Shine novel of the same name https://t.co/O7M5iGa7uI
The irony/paradox of the film business is that the biggest breakout hits are the ones that experience the most friction getting to market.
When I finally got 300 greenlit, HBO labeled it an animated film, which negated WB’s contractual output to them. They exercised their obscure contractual right to make sure they weren’t ’stuck with it’.
THE HANGOVER faced similar internal rejections.
HARRY POTTER couldn’t find a publisher.
GRAVITY could not find a co-fi partner even weeks before release.
All of these films were breakouts. In part, this was due to their uniqueness.
The point is - the great paradox of the film business is that great value is only created with new fresh films.
The newness and the freshness of those films make them hard to get through the system.
The thing that makes them valuable is directly proportional to thing that makes the system resist them.
Push through - the juice is worth the squeeze.
“The Watchers” strikes a careful balance between the freaky and the mundane, @davidlsims writes—and the film’s “pitch-perfect location” in the Irish woods functions “as more of a special effect than whatever you might create on a computer.” https://t.co/7s3iN9Objx
I don’t know @gregsilverman personally, only by his reputation. This is a list of vectors all newbies to the business should master, and all current professionals should live every day!
I’ve been asked throughout my career - what makes someone successful in entertainment. A few years ago, I came up with 4 vectors that I think are the key factors in answering this question.
@stampedeventures we have highlighted these and we hire and evaluate employees based on them.
They are Hustle, Taste, Follow Through and Manners. I will describe each in more detail below.

WHY HAVE A TV WRITER ON SET?
Since they already wrote the script (and rewrote it 8 times, and tweaked it after the table read)?
Glad you asked, here's a thread.
