In my #UNGA speech today, I also warned about the danger of war fatigue.

In Kyiv, children have learned the arithmetic of war. A drone is reported heading toward the city. A child checks the map and calculates how much longer he can sleep before he has to run to a shelter.

No child should have to become good at this.

We cannot allow repetition to make the unacceptable feel normal. Ukraine did not choose this war. Russia did.

This will be the first winter since the beginning of the war when Russia itself starts feeling the consequences of the conflict more directly on its energy system and when the war reaches closer to the daily lives of the Russian population.

But we also need to understand that this will be an extremely difficult winter for Ukraine.

Long-range strikes and drone warfare are constantly evolving, and we’ve already seen more alerts affecting areas around Poland, Romania and other countries close to the war.

This winter will also bring more incidents and pressure for NATO countries bordering Ukraine.

Moldova could face another difficult winter as well, depending on what happens in Ukraine and i'ts energy system.

But this will be the first winter where the consequences of the war are felt more directly inside Russia itself. Obviously, it will not be felt in the same way as it is being felt in Ukraine, where the consequences of the war remain far more severe.

UPDATE: 🇲🇩 Moldova’s Parliament has approved a 60-day state of emergency in the energy and water sectors, following yesterday’s warning from President Maia Sandu. The measure will take effect on September 26.

The decision was approved by 54 MPs after more than five hours of debate. Authorities say the emergency will allow the state to act faster if problems emerge with energy, fuel or water supplies ahead of winter.

Under the measures, authorities will be able to rapidly purchase, store and distribute energy resources, prioritize imports, temporarily limit exports from strategic reserves and introduce measures to reduce electricity consumption during peak hours. They will also be able to mobilize pumping equipment and alternative power sources to manage water shortages affecting the Dniester and Prut basins.

The government says the goal is not to create panic, but to ensure it can intervene before supply problems directly affect households and critical infrastructure.

During the debate, PAS deputy Doina Gherman gave a blunt warning about the situation Moldova is facing. She argued that spending 24 hours debating who is responsible will not make gas cheaper, and challenged anyone who can bring cheaper gas, stop Russian drones from flying over people’s homes or stop the war to do so.
