@Lakers_king23 "It took 4 all stars to just take down LeBron James and he still took them to 7 games"
And here I was thinking we're done with the 90's...
No one is suggesting a sense of powerlessness from customers. Most companies usually try to heard their customer base into something they ultimately see as a better path of least resistance. For example; releasing a game digitally first and then a year later releasing the physical after the game sold well and then go "See?! Physical is just a thing of the past. Look at the digital sales compared to physical!"
That's one of the manipulative practices these companies employ to fudge the numbers. Them getting more money isn't going to save studios or give us better games. The industry is barely going to change with the only exception that you won't own anything because they never promised you ownership. They promised you conditional access.
Companies found out gamers are easier to trick and generally won't fight back if provided a convenience. If they can easily get you to see that there's no need for physical, it's only a matter of time where they'll have people agreeing that DRM embedded in games isn't a bad thing.
The problem is that the industry has conditioned people to try to accept an all digital future. Even when Steam came around they ditched physical and people were upset by it. So they created a trojan horse to get people used to the idea of all digital. Steam sales. You're not going to be as mad about digital when the game is 70% off.
There's natural habits and guided habits. If I had a site that sold MP3s and then I wanted to create a music subscription service, I'm going to want you to get the service and ditch buying MP3s. So how would I do that? I need you to get used to the idea that you would rather subscribe monthly then buy once and own it. I would do things like get exclusive albums or have songs on my service that no one else has. Once I do that I can ditch MP3s altogether. Having an all digital industry is what most businesses sectors call a single point of failure.
@tgpumpkin1@sassuki6@olivercampbell No I'm not. The point is that those entertainment industries got a glimpse of an all digital future and noped out. Yes, physical isn't that huge of a presence, but they understand that it provides an option for the consumer and a multi-channel rev stream.
That also doesn't shake out as a logical reason as the same can be said for Sony and Microsoft. The sad reality is that gamers are easier to manipulate. When movies were killing physical and theaters, there was a huge backlash and then suddenly companies started printing more physical and day one streaming for movies practically stopped. Vinyl and CD's are just as popular now. Sony is committing to revenue from one channel vs having a multi-channel revenue stream. The extra money isn't going to developers. The AAA industry is going to be just Madden, FC (formally FIFA), Call of Duty, NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto as those are the safe bets.
@tgpumpkin1@olivercampbell Actually they do care how much you play the game because they can continue to monetize you. That's why Sony was making those live service games with their strong IPs. And actually gamers didn't just choose digital, they were conditioned to do so.
@sassuki6@tgpumpkin1@olivercampbell I was saying "outdated" in the sense of it being physical media that people are decrying. You understood the assignment. This also stems from the recent closure of game studios. They feel that if they get more money it'll save game studios from shutting down.
@sassuki6@tgpumpkin1@olivercampbell And to add to your point @sassuki6, if physical formats are a thing of the past, Nintendo wouldn't have made a console around with the most outdated tech available with CARTRIDGES! The Switch 2 wouldn't even be a thing.
@tgpumpkin1@olivercampbell So essentially we're trading one minority for another. GTA, Red Dead and other open world games could be an exception, but it isn't the norm. Textures and sounds have gotten better. It's not a vastly growing trend like people think it is.
@tgpumpkin1@olivercampbell I think you're conflating the base game with base game with added DLC. Only a handful of games have run over 100gb base. So they are not getting bigger by scale. We're literally changing the entire industry for GTA and Call of Duty.
@sportingroars Pat Riley is coaching that team personally. Pat has always admired MJ and if he "Took his talents to South Beach", Spo is an assistant coach right then and there. Miami wins all 4 rings.
MJ is also going to let Bosh and Wade play their respective games and allow Riley to coach.
@TRIPSTER0 This is an unpopular take, but they never promised you ownership with digital. They only promised you conditional access. There's a difference. You get no ownership rights with digital, because it isn't what was promised to you the consumer. Ownership is a thing of the past.
@Dennis_Pulido I remember buying the manga and what was special about it was all of the pages were black and white except for all the violent and explicit scenes were in full color. I thought that was pretty cool
@DeeGeeGames2009 We need a time machine and send them all back to April 2011. Their tunes will change then. 😂
Lizard Squad were villains then, but now I know they were the heroes we needed. 😂 🤣
