Mr. Andile Ramaphosa and his team paid me a courtesy call this afternoon at Nakasero State Lodge. They presented proposals for collaboration with NAGRC and the Regional Service Centre Initiative at Namunkekera Farm aimed at strengthening the regulated breeding, harvesting and export of Ankole cattle genetics to the SADC region and beyond.
They also shared a proposal to establish a B.O.T. laboratory to help address the challenge of counterfeit agro-inputs in the country. I welcome these ideas, I thank them for their initiative. The Government will study the proposals and support initiatives that advance Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
@NAGRC_DB congratulates Hon. @FrankTumwebazek , Hon. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) @DrRwamiramaBK, Hon. @DesireMuhooza and Hon. Robert Ndugwa @HonMigadde upon their appointment to lead Uganda’s agriculture, animal industry and fisheries sector for the 2026–2031 term.
We look forward to working together to advance agricultural transformation, improve productivity, strengthen food and nutrition security, and support the livelihoods of farming communities across Uganda.

On Mother’s Day, I celebrate my grandmother, Zerda Rwamuranga rwa Rwempogo.
Widowed in her 20s, she was a fearless nomad who built and managed a large herd of cattle in the hills of Nshaara. Legend has it that she once fought off a lion single-handedly. She led a household of more than 20 people with strength, wisdom and grit, and lived to the age of 95.
A true matriarch.
By the way, a clear example of unethical conduct would be one of these briefcase online tabloids picking this Samson response and writing, “Fire me - Samson Kasumba dares NBS Boss Kin.”
Our son Anselm, in his second year of PhD studies and already teaching, fills me with pride. I admire his brilliance and courage. And yes, I sometimes wish he embraced more of my faith, my community - and even cut his hair, so he might appear more “normal” to the conservative Ugandan gaze that raised me. But I am learning that love is also a practice of letting go and trusting that our children will grow into their light in their own time…./3
Today, we celebrate a proud Ugandan heritage.
The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank @NAGRC_DB, in partnership with Destination Ankole, today at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala launches a landmark publication titled “Celebrating the Prestigious Ankole Cattle Heritage in Uganda,” with the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze @FrankTumwebazek, as the Chief Guest of Honour.
This book documents the rich history, cultural significance, and immense economic potential of the #Ankole Longhorn cattle, one of Uganda’s most iconic indigenous breeds. For centuries, Ankole cattle have symbolized wealth, pride, and identity, and today they stand as a powerful driver for tourism, agribusiness, and genetic conservation.
The publication highlights the origins and rare races of Ankole cattle, their majestic horns, strong cultural value, and growing role in tourism, particularly in the Ankole region. It also showcases the breed’s economic value through milk, ghee, lean beef, hides, and skins, alongside emerging opportunities in genetic conservation, international trade, and intellectual property protection.
As the mandated government agency, @NAGRC_DB has, since 2003, led national efforts to conserve, improve, and multiply purebred Ankole cattle, with Nshaara Ranch in Kiruhura District serving as the National Ankole Longhorn Cattle Conservatory Centre. These efforts have positioned Uganda as a global reference point for Ankole cattle genetics, attracting interest from international markets.
This book launch is more than a publication. It is a call to action to preserve genetic purity, promote sustainable use, unlock tourism and business opportunities, and safeguard a living symbol of Uganda’s cultural heritage for generations to come.

I was inspired when I visited China 🇨🇳 last year: their HIV response is one of the most comprehensive in the world — grounded in science, guided by data, and increasingly centred on people & their communities. When international donors stepped back, China took full financial responsibility for its national HIV response. @cidcaofficial
My urgent call is that Lenacapavir must not become another breakthrough that goes out only after a decade to those who need it most. At @UNAIDS, we've been working to support governments to prepare and push for fair pricing and faster access. We've challenged industry, convened partners, and worked alongside civil society to keep people at the centre. @UNAIDS_ZAF

To the many friends , Leaders and many well wishers I have not had opportunity to know personally I want to express my deep appreciation for your very warm Birth Day Wishes. Bless!
In those countries that were overdependent on aid, what happened in the area of HIV, was the creation of parallel structures where this money for HIV was driven, while the rest of the health systems were crumbling. We must solve that.
We must integrate, build one health system that addresses vertical diseases—one system that delivers cost effectively. These are things we are doing, we @UNAIDS are working with countries.
But first and foremost, we must do it with a plan that's orderly, that's responsible, and that doesn't cost lives. It shouldn't be a sudden retreat, it should be a planned transition.
