Frustrating and Unnecessary Delays: Tax Audit Extension
The unprecedented number of over 30 writ petitions filed in various High Courts for a Tax Audit Extension is an unfortunate and avoidable situation.
This is not just a waste of the judiciary’s time but also a significant financial burden on Chartered Accountants and taxpayers due to the costs of litigation.
This issue is simple and could be resolved administratively yet the government's inaction is causing widespread frustration. It sets a concerning precedent and suggests a lack of foresight and cooperation from the Ministry of Finance and CBDT.
The absence of a timely extension is making a mockery of the system and has never happened on this scale before.
It is high time for a proactive, practical approach to tax administration.

2. Bhilwara Tax & Bar Association – Listed on 24.09.2025
3. Punjab & Haryana HC – CWP-28440-2025 (Ashwini Kumar v/s Central Govt.) - Heard today. Court has directed Dept. Counsel to seek instructions from CBDT by 26.09.2025, failing which the Court may pass suitable orders. Next hearing will be on 26.09.2025
4. Delhi TBA – W.P.(C) 14691/2025 – Heard today; Dept to seek instructions. Next hearing on 24.09.2025
5. RTCA – Filed. Hearing date awaited.
6. ITBA Ahmedabad - Filed SLP at Gujarat HC today. Details awaited.

I wonder why Traders and Business Organizations are not making active representation for Tax Audit Due Date Extension?

If due date is not extended, businesses will be the one paying the Penalty and not the Chartered Accountants.

So much of unreasonable pressure has been created on both the taxpayers and professionals without the fault of both of them.

This is unjustified that the cost of not providing utilities on time and faulty portals is to be borne by taxpayers!!!

Every day I hope I complete atleast 10 Tax Audit Reports but at the end of the day, I complete only 3-4, that too pending due to draft financials and queries sent to client for approval and resolution.

How can one complete 60 regulated + other presumptive based audit in 12 days ?

Beyond biological measures. 🙏

Some of my CA friends are staying overnight at their offices to save time!

Some of my CA friends have been going office from 8am to 11pm and having meals at office only!

Some of my CA colleagues are in bad mental state due to enormous pressure of TAR due date.

This is not normal @FinMinIndia
CAs are called Partners in Nation Building.

Extend due date immediately. The relief is genuine and delaying it everyday makes it painful and unjustified!

Non-extension or delayed extension will kill SME firms!

Dear Chartered Accountants,
The chances of extension are now very slim.

President Sir wrote a letter on 17th September, yet there has been no response from @IncomeTaxIndia till today.
Tomorrow is Sunday, so realistically there is no chance of extension tomorrow.

If you are working under pressure, keep working.
If you have sacrificed your health and family time, keep sacrificing.

Because in the eyes of @FinMinIndia, you are nothing.
They don’t even consider you as human.

Another way is to stop suffering and do #pendown.
But since there is zero unity among Chartered Accountants, even that is not possible.

So, continue suffering in silence.
May God bless all of us.

Maybe in future, we will vote for sensible persons.
Maybe in future, someone will consider us as humans.

Till then, do whatever you can.

CBDT Should Issue Notification for Extension of TAR Due date Today itself, if they have any such plan for extension.

Granting an extension just 10 minutes before the deadline will not serve any purpose.
