We found that a mutant induces cell death in the fat body resistant to cell death.
The responsible gene is Nacα, which is responsible for intracellular proteostasis. The reduction of Nacα results in p53-mediated cell death.

We are pleased to present our latest paper, demonstrating that a gut hormone, CCHa1, responsive to a high-protein diet, regulates protein appetite. Disruptions in this system lead to excessive protein intake and its subsequent adverse effects.

Interestingly, the cell death phenotype was exacerbated depending on nutritional status and developmental stage.
The Drosophila fat body may be used to explore polyploid tissues resistant to cell death (e.g., cancer cells) and the relationship between nutrition and proteostasis.
