Just landed in Muscat, Oman. After years of never quite making it here, we thought this was the moment.
First impression: Dubai before the “dubaification.”
It’s a one-hour flight from Dubai, but feels like an alternate reality. Same 0% personal income tax (until 2028), but infinitely quieter and more local. The majority of the population is Omani.
Usually an escape for those living in the UAE, I think it could be a fantastic holiday or retreat destination for many more.
It’s also interesting to me because sometimes, to really understand a place, you need a nearby benchmark.
Visiting somewhere close with a completely different culture helps you see the choices each society made over the years much more clearly.
I’ll report more soon. Cheers.
