@pingu_pinguping @chang_bo_wen @neilthomas123@FT Thank you. I was thinking that there must also be schools that mainly teach in Native American languages, but I didn't know for sure.
@CSteel3112@bruegels_muse There is a working class movement in Iran, but its constantly being repressed by the dictatorship, which has surveillance powers and control over the populace which the Czarist regime could only dream of.
@aodanhill@avrilbradley23 Aung San was sent by his comrades from Burma to Amoy to establish contact with the Chinese Communist Party – only after which, being succesful at, he was recruited by Japanese intelligence.
@aewwuu@gucci_laptop@Demon_Realms That's correct. Aung San Suu Kyi's government didn't carry out the genocide, but it didn't even really try to stand up to the military. She tried to appease the generals, but the military still freaked out and did a coup anyways – because it was losing control over the masses.
@aewwuu@gucci_laptop@Demon_Realms The military never gave up power. It temporarily opened up and allowed an elected civilian government, but that government had no power over the military, which carried out the genocide.
@aibn29nova@KEBuHCAH The original Burmese term for China was စိန့် Sain.
Also, while the old 20th century historiography dated the Burmese migration from Yunan to around the fall of the Pyu, many historians not theorize that they were already present in Northern Burma during the Pyu period.
@KEBuHCAH The original Burmese word was စိန့် Sain, the same as the root for Sino.
The new term တရုတ် Taruk was adopted during the era of Mongol-dominated Yuan Dynasty in China, during which time Yuan launched several invasions of Myanmar.
@MikeJATP@got_cake It's true that aks was widely used in Old and Middle English and in dialectical pronunciations in Britain and abroad up to the present day.
@got_cake No. Outside of West Saxon, other Old English dialects wrote ascian and similar. We know that was the original form because of its cognates: eskon in Old Saxon, askia in Old Firisian, eiscon in Old High German, ieskoti in Lithuanian, éṣati in Sanskrit.
