They don't need to know and hear everything. They need you to answer questions, and filter unnecessary information. If you have questions yourself on how to talk to your children/students, your local school psychologist can help.
Please turn off the news in front of your young children. Answer questions in a simple, developmentally-minded manner. Reassure your children that they are safe with you. Reach out to mental health professionals for intense or lingering distress. We are here to help.
In a large class, strategies like this really help maintain prosocial behaviour. The students in Ms. Barter's large class of Grade 4s at @OctagonPond report that they love it and all the hype they get makes them feel great!
Who can you hype up today?? 😄

As long as the stim isn't harming the child themselves or anyone else, let them stim. It helps them self regulate, and we all need to self regulate throughout our day in ways that work for us.

@Pednpsy13 @DenneyDayle We indicated that studies are limited but overall, for the majority, benefits are short lived. It's a general guideline for parents and educators. Twitter doesn't allow for full nuanced discussion. Such decisions should be made case by case following any research that's available
Have you had discussions about delaying kindergarten entry for a child? This practice is called "redshirting," and the research is limited and mixed, but overall any positive impacts on academics and social-emotional functioning seem to be short-lived.

An overwhelmingly white field, school psychology has largely failed to adopt a lens of intersectionality & act on the knowledge that social determinants (e.g. adverse early experiences, poverty, food insecurity, discrimination, ed. inequities) deeply affect child mental health 1/
Have you wondered about the different learning-based exceptionalities we see in school-aged children, how they are distinguished from each other, and how they are identified and supported?
