The Commanders were never an option for Quenton Nelson per source. The Colts wanted to send Nelson where he wanted to go, and to a contender, and they took less compensation to do so. They think VERY highly of Q. Don’t crash out Washington fans, it was never happening.
@iLikeSeanDaily Fair. Idk about making decisions for the possibility of him coming back. Feels like that door is very narrow. I do appreciate trying to give franchise players a better situation, but being so close to FA is also a factor. Easy for him to move on in the offseason
@GShoww@Colts4lyfe2 Definitely not pleased but I give Carlie some credit for firing Ballard mid season like this in her second year as owner
I guess my thought is that she probably listens to Dodds and is driven by his advice. But I take your point that she is the one making the final calls
@iLikeSeanDaily Do you mean that they’re playing 4D chess and trading him for the rest of this season just to sign him in FA in the offseason? That’d be wild but I just doubt it when we don’t even know who the GM will be, it’s pretty rare, and I imagine they are just going to go younger
Some team executives are wondering why the #Colts were in such a rush to trade Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner today with the trade deadline still two weeks away.
Nelson and Buckner were, in the eyes of some, the top G and DT available on this year’s trade market.
The interest — and potentially the value — for both players likely would have increased as the deadline approached and teams entered “now-or-never” mode.
There’s a strong argument that the Colts could’ve gotten more.
@NoThanx_imFine If they wanted to show they cared then they should’ve extended him in the offseason and then traded him imo. I get your general point though, but I also think it is different when he’s on the last year of his contract. If he isn’t happy with Seattle then he can go into FA
@rickfrombc@TalkinnColts I don’t hate the Buckner trade as much as I hate the Nelson trade. But I acknowledge that Q should’ve been extended, and we would’ve had a better pick now if they had. A Ballard fuck up from beyond the grave.
But the Colts took Sauce because they were hoping for a Super Bowl.
