@SportyMcSports@Kolten655350 That’s a pro sports mentality.
College football has always had meaning attached to each game ON ITS OWN, and that’s the point. The more focus is shifted to the postseason, the more emphasis on college football’s uniquely great regular season gets diminished.
@SportyMcSports Us real diehard fans won’t quit overnight. That much is true.
But if you keep chipping away, and eroding what is most special about college football, you can eventually make current diehards love it less in the future.
And on the other end, are casuals gonna be into NFL-lite?
@MPFB_Prediction Sure, there’s room for non-linear judgement, but that’s also an invitation for bias to infect the process, and that’s what we see play out every year.
And with 24, we’d be talking about teams barely above AVERAGE in their own leagues vying for a national title, which is silly.
@js_ace_football Agreed. The BCS gets overrated via nostalgia goggles. Even computers will inherently have bias built in, because a human decides the algorithm.
The committee is far from perfect, but overall their rankings are as good as any other major ranking system of the past or present.
@MPFB_Prediction No, they don’t have a chance. Every year, teams that achieve more are ignored in favor of other teams who achieved less but against “better” competition. It’s a beauty pageant.
I’m not telling you to ignore anything, just saying teams should have to WIN their way to a title.
@ianstohel Way too many at-larges (there aren’t 14 legit contenders otherwise slipping through the cracks here), but otherwise I agree.
And if you limit the maximum number of at-larges each conference can get (I’d prefer a limit set at 4), then I can be okay with that part too.
@StuartDonald@d_ford_p We should reward teams for WINNING, not give them mulligans for losing in a hyped conference.
Having a low perceived SOS does not mean you’re not a great team. You could give the Seattle Seahawks a CUSA schedule, and they’d still be the best team in college football by a mile.
@d_ford_p It’s not about which games matter to the committee afterwards.
It’s about which games matter to the greater college football world AT THE TIME THEY’RE PLAYED.
With a giant tournament, we could see teams start to sandbag strategically, & even rest players for those late weeks.
@HawkEmDownChris On his BEST DAY, Aaron Rodgers may have played the game at the highest level we’ve ever seen. But overall? No, the Sheriff was a QB & OC in 1, and is arguably the greatest ever.
(Obviously Brady has the untouchable resume, but there’s room to debate who’s the greatest player.)
@Underwood_szn He’s a spectacular talent, and it’s a kinda nice move AFTER the catch that makes the defender look silly, but yeah, it’s not the route that wins there.
@HawkEmDownChris Fresh Prince & Jeffersons are classic, but I’ll add:
Cheers
A-Team
Dukes of Hazzard
Sanford & Son
Wonder Years
Airwolf
Knight Rider
Simon & Simon
Miami Vice
A Different World
Hill Street Blues
MASH
WKRP in Cincinnati
In Living Color
The Muppet Show
@Underwood_szn Give it a minute. Chiles is a Senior, and that was his best game.
It looks like things are starting to click for Underwood. Even though it was UTEP, his field vision and decision making seemed to take a big step forward. I think it’s clear he hasn’t played his best game yet.
Army in the afternoon, Navy in the evening, and then Chip Kelly’s got NW running WingT triple option and pushing the champs to the absolute limit.
Great way to spend a Friday night. 👍
@HawkEmDownChris A better pure ballcarrier? Yes, and it’s not close. No contest. Barry’s the best to ever do it.
But a better overall player at the RB position? That’s a valid debate.
