@NoodleStand@DreddSnail If you're buying a PC you're gonna get hassle.
My Steam Deck developed an issue with the WiFi antenna in the first month and there were many reports of a blackscreen issue early in the Steam Deck life cycle where the display wouldn't work due to mismatching bios versions.
@NoodleStand@DreddSnail Actually, the consoles I listed play the entirety of the console catalogue as well as PC games.
You can run Linux on PS5s now.
Theres even footage of Bloodborne being emulated on PS5
@FrogmasterDL@DreddSnail 1. The Cube still can't play 900+ PS3 games and will likely struggle with most PS4 games.
2. The quantity of games isn't an argument of quality.
3. $1050 vs $1200 isn't really a smoking gun since the prices I listed are in AUD not USD
@FrogmasterDL@DreddSnail I should clarify.
A games base price can't be lower on a competitors platform.
Thats why discount loopholes are used, Steam enforce this, Sony probably does despite there being no examples, same with Xbox.
@FrogmasterDL@DreddSnail Kinda? MFN Clauses mean that games can't be priced lower on competitors platforms.
So discounts are usually offered instead, can you think of any discounts that that happened only on one platform?
Publishers typically coordinate discounts across platforms.
@FrogmasterDL@DreddSnail PC has been by far the most expensive hobby for me to break into.
And yeah, PC can be used for other things but it can be a headache just trying to get new games running well if your hardware is outdated.
@FrogmasterDL@DreddSnail As I noted elsewhere, to play pretty much all PS games you only really need
PS2 - $200
PS3 - $200
PS5 - $800
PSVita - $200
Compared to my $2000 PC that's relatively cheap if you're only focus is gaming.
And I need to upgrade my PC I'll need another $1000.
@NoodleStand@DreddSnail In fact, I'm sure my console collection in it's entirety is cheaper than my PCs.
PS2 - $100
PS3 - $200
PS5 Pro - $1200
PS Vita - $200
That covers the entirety of Sony's catalogue. I could probably include my Nintendo consoles too.
PC - $2000
Steam Deck - $1,200
@NoodleStand@DreddSnail True, but it's also cheaper to buy a PS3 today and play everything natively using an ISO than buy/build a PC to run vaguely most games.
My PC cost $2000 when I built it, now I gotta upgrade it so I'm looking at another $1000
My PS3 was like $200 and WILL play everything.
@Gumboglumpens@DreddSnail RPCS3 has 900 games that are listed as unplayable.
A lot of those are great titles worth playing.
A few other emulators have similar lists not accounting for undocumented games.
@NoodleStand@DreddSnail RPCS3 is just a good example because they keep track of game compatibility.
For instance, Backbreker Vengeance works but there's only a Demo build available.
Starhawk is in-game but virtually unplayable.
@NoodleStand@DreddSnail Kinda, emulators aren't a smoking bullet for 'it runs on PC'.
Emulators need to be maintained and they need to test a library to ensure they're not missing any edge cases or games that leverage hardware quirks.
Theres roughly 900 games emulators like RPCS3 can't run.
@NoodleStand@DreddSnail Correction, if a game is built to only compile on a certain processor architecture it's 'hardware exclusive'.
For instance many PC88 games.
You can run them in an emulator but you can't run them natively.
@NoodleStand@DreddSnail Nope, but my statement does include those.
But if that helps you understand what I'm talking about then yes, that's exactly what I mean.
