@ChrisCinciBiz Two initial thoughts: 1) The Bengals offer to "pay for a portion" is a range wide enough to drive a truck through. 2) For once the Bengals are right about something - a new stadium or a dome to the existing one would be a huge waste of money.
@BillGlines DeSantis is the obvious better option for Republicans. Conservative policies plus the intellect, discipline, focus, and competence recent presidents have lacked.
Folks, we're not a tweak away from getting stadiums to finally spur economic activity. Stadiums don't catalyze development bc the associated spending is largely reallocated local spending, not new spending. Stadium events are also highly disruptive to most businesses.
@rosanelli_rose@AliBaumanTV@CBSNewYork except that they rarely if ever do. They're done primarily for virtue signaling and giving free vacations for elected officials and senior govt staffers
Everyone who sees this story asks, "hey, ever heard of Google?" Doesn't matter. From experience I can tell you the elected officials who back these S.S. programs don't give one lick whether it's beneficial to residents. It's all about the virtue signaling and free vacations.
Lol. If there's any program less justifiable than private stadium subsidies, it's these "Sister City" programs that allow elected officials and senior staffers to take international vacations at taxpayer expense while accomplishing nothing for their residents.
Just realized that instead of going to grad school and working as an economics professor, I should have just interned at a local Conventions and Visitors Bureau, worked my way up, and then people would just believe and repeat whatever bullshit I said.
@jriff1073@ChrisCinciBiz It's huge. For 20 years I had to take about 1-2 trips/yr to Chicago where my regional office was. Fortunately it was a work trip, and thus paid by my employer.
This is a great one. The public owed $399 million for the 2003 Soldier Field renovation. After 20 years of payments, the public now owes $631 million. A deal so bad you'd think Bob Bedinghaus or Jeff Berding flew to Chicago and wrote it themselves.
@piercecp It couldn't be a pit bull, rottweiler, or chow chow, since their owners all insist they're sweet, loving breeds who are no more likely to bite than a chihuahua or poodle.
@ChrisCinciBiz It's a list that includes the two people he functionally has to defeat in 2024 - Trump and then Biden. DeSantis has made a much better impression on the public than they have.
@ChrisCinciBiz You're correct in that the standards for getting elected President are higher than the other offices. As applied to today, there's only 1 national political figure with higher favorables than unfavorables - and that's Governor DeSantis.
@ChrisCinciBiz Is this how DeSantis just won a landslide re-election with the best #'s a Republican gubernatorial candidate ever put up in Florida - and where he won Hispanics, women, independents, and even Democratic Miami-Dade County?
