Somehow US basing in Turkey, Qatar, KSA, Jordan, Iraq etc are never debated even though their primary purpose is to protect the local regimes and this is before one considers outright military funding and incentives to Egypt, Jordan and others.
#HillelFrisch came to a similar conclusion in 2017, in "Myth: Israel Is the Largest Beneficiary of US Military Aid." An excerpt:
"Israel is not even a major beneficiary of American military aid. The numerical figure reflects official direct US military aid, but is almost meaningless compared to the real costs and benefits of US military aid – which include, above all, American boots on the ground in the host states."

🚨 Important key-notes:
- “NATO-wide defense expenditure amounted to 2.65% of combined GDP in 2024, Israel spent 8.8% of GDP on defense in the same year and 4.4% in 2022 (before the October 7th attack)”.
- “The U.S.-Israel partnership also generates strategic benefits for the United States through regional deterrence, intelligence cooperation, defense industrial support, technological innovation, and operational knowledge”.
- “While security partnerships in Europe, Japan, and South Korea rely in part on the permanent presence of American forces, the United States supports Israel as a highly capable partner that can defend itself while advancing shared strategic objectives. This approach allows Washington to sustain regional deterrence without assuming the recurring costs and risks associated with maintaining large permanent military deployments”.
- “Military assistance to Israel also generates economic returns for the United States, particularly by supporting the American defense industrial base, rather than functioning as a simple transfer of resources overseas”.
- “Partnership with Israel provides the United States with access to combat-tested operational knowledge without requiring comparable operational exposure by U.S. forces”.
