🚨BIG BREAKING: New Peer Reviewed Research firmly backs up claims that Bitcoin mining is a powerful tool for reducing methane emissions.
This groundbreaking paper highlights the ability for BTC mining to utilize methane from landfills - methane is 28x more potent for warming than carbon dioxide. Mitigating methane has very positive impacts on the environment.
The paper also shows how mining Bitcoin with landfill methane gas is economically viable, further demonstrating the potential of BTC as a tool for good.
Myself and the team at Satoshi Action have been working for years to demonstrate how Bitcoin mining can have positive impacts. Myself and @DrMurrayRudd were proud to lead the effort to put this paper together.
A huge thank you goes to @NodalPower for supporting this paper and also co-authoring it alongside the Satoshi Action team. Without their help this paper never would have become a reality.
Additionally, the paper was also co-authored by former GreenPeace activist @DSBatten who has spent the better part of his career in the Bitcoin ecosystem teaching others about the potential for Bitcoin mining to mitigate methane emissions.
The journal of publication, Cleaner Production, is ranked in the top 2% when measured by impact factor making the acceptance of this paper even more important in the fight to demonstrate the potential of Bitcoin.
At Satoshi Action we believe in the need for credible, evidence-backed research that we can use to inform lawmakers and regulators as they make their policy decisions. This paper will play a major role in demonstrating to lawmakers the value of BTC mining as a tool for cleaning up the environment.
Thank you again to @NodalPower for supporting this paper. If you would like to help us produce more papers like this one, please reach out to talk to us about funding opportunities. There is much work to be done.

Running Bitcoin mining operations on vented methane from landfills is insanely emission reducing
45x more emissions reduced per unit of power than installing more solar on the grid !
Yes, there are other ways to use vented methane.
No, they are not profitable.
JUST IN:
International Business Times
says Bitcoin mining can help achieve “net zero by 2050,"
This is kinda big.
This is mainstream media channel, based in NY. It’s a well researched article on bitcoin mining, aware of contemporary research including
✅Cornell study showing bitcoin can create “a self-sustaining cycle for renewable energy expansion”
✅@dari_org study showing bitcoin uses 54.5% sustainable sources
✅Various studies showing Bitcoin mining can turn [wasted] “Excess Energy Into Economic Value”
Well done @marvbuzzilan for putting in the research hours.

NEW: Bitcoin News got an advanced look at @AlanaMediavilla's new documentary, Dirty Coin, which challenges the negative narrative on Bitcoin mining, showing how it promotes renewable energy and community empowerment.
Proud our data helped @SatoshiEducate show how #Bitcoin mining converts methane waste to economic value and reduces emissions. We see this research play out at landfills every day. Let's scale.
MASSIVE BRREAKING: New research co-authored by a former Greenpeace activist and an environmental economist (Ph.D.) confirms that #Bitcoin mining is a powerful tool to cleanup the environment and mitigate methane emissions.
THIS PAPER SHOWS THAT:
🌎Bitcoin is good for the environment
💰Bitcoin can fund methane cleanup
♻️ Bitcoin converts waste to economic value
🚗 If 1% of the #BTC network converts to vented methane it would eliminate the emissions equivalent of 9 billion miles driven by a gas-powered vehicle.
This new research challenges the common perception of #Bitcoin mining. It flips the current narrative that "Bitcoin mining is bad for the environment" on its head and instead highlights how #Bitcoin can serve as a powerful force for good.

This groundbreaking paper, led by @SatoshiEducate and @NodalPower, underscores the potential for #Bitcoin mining to serve as a "sustainable economic model for methane mitigation" and shows how #Bitcoin can transform "an environmental challenge into a viable economic asset."
The paper further states that just 1.14 MW of mining could mitigate 2,187 metric tons of CH4 annually, which is equivalent to 156,000,000+ miles driven by a gasoline-powered passenger vehicle.
To put this into context, the #Bitcoin mining network operates at ~6,000 MW in the USA alone. If just 1% of Bitcoin mining in America switched to vented methane, it would equate to 131,220 metric tons of CH4 reduction.
That is the same as 9,000,000,000+ (yes, that's 9 billion!) miles driven by an average gasoline-powered vehicle.

By capturing methane gas and turning it into electricity for #Bitcoin mining, this paper addresses two critical challenges: reducing methane emissions and finding a profitable use for surplus energy.
Bitcoin mining has often been criticized for its high energy consumption, but this model alters that narrative. By utilizing landfill methane, #Bitcoin transforms a notorious environmental offender into a clean, revenue-generating energy source.
The study utilized data from Nodal Power, a landfill #Bitcoin miner who takes a cutting-edge approach with their patented technology to mitigate methane right here in the USA. Without their support, this paper would not have been possible.
The paper was also co-authored by Daniel Batten (@DSBatten) and Dr. Murray Rudd (@DrMurrayRudd). Daniel, a former Greenpeace activist, is now a leading advocate for the potential of Bitcoin mining to reduce emissions from landfills. Dr. Rudd played a pivotal role in the paper using his extensive academic expertise to model the outcomes.
The implications of this paper are vast, ranging from local waste management strategies to global climate goals. The synergy between #Bitcoin mining and landfill gas can accelerate methane emissions capture and landfill gas capture infrastructure.

Given the highly potent nature of methane emissions as a greenhouse gas, the opportunity to utilize mining to mitigate methane in an economically viable way cannot be ignored.
While the study provides a compelling blueprint for the future, the researchers caution that success hinges on overcoming regulatory, technological, and financial challenges. To reap the benefits, both #Bitcoin miners and landfill operators need to navigate volatile cryptocurrency markets, fluctuating electricity prices, and varying environmental regulations.
Still, this integration of technology and sustainability marks a bold step toward a greener future. If adopted widely, #Bitcoin miners could turn methane into digital gold—literally—and help curb one of the most potent climate-warming gasses on Earth.

Methane's a menace, but we're making it a resource! Our Utah pilot project with @NodalPower captures landfill methane for #Bitcoin mining, reducing greenhouse gases and advancing renewable energy.
BIG BIG NEWS: There is major progress coming out of the #Bitcoin 'peer-reviewed' research world. I want to tell you about it, but first, let me fill you in on some recent fundraising news. On Monday we announced our end of year $100k fundraiser for @SatoshiActFund
We raised $40,000 from our dinner and within 24 hours of announcing we raised an additional $6,000 towards that goal. A total of $46,000. A huge milestone for us as we work to pass 10 pro-#Bitcoin laws across the country.
Please make a donation of ANY size to help reach our $100,000 goal by clicking this link: https://t.co/uttUi80eAI
NOW FOR THE BIG NEWS: Today, a peer-reviewed journal published a research agenda for #Bitcoin mining.
This is HUGE because researchers from around the world now have a 'north star' as they embark on new #Bitcoin research.
Why 'Peer-Reviewed' Research Will Speed Up Mass-Adoption of Bitcoin :
You want the real answer...?
The truth is, we CANNOT change the narrative on #Bitcoin without peer-reviewed research!
Lawmakers and regulators have a hard time believing the claims that we make about #Bitcoin. They want to believe us, but some of the claims we make sound too good to be true without evidence to back them up. Some of the claims we make include:
"#Bitcoin can mitigate methane emissions"
"#Bitcoin is good for renewables"
"#Bitcoin can balance the grid"
You and I both know that these claims are true. We see it happening in real time in states like Utah where @NodalPower and @MarathonDH partnered to cleanup methane at at a landfill.
The problem is, lawmakers and regulators have busy lives with no time to do their own research. So, the best way to help them trust the claims we make is to produce peer-reviewed research.
WE NEED TO HELP PRODUCE THE RESEARCH!
Peer-reviewed research acts as a truth validator for the positive claims we are making about #Bitcoin. THIS is why we need the #Bitcoin research agenda!
We also need to fund #Bitcoin research.
Will you help us? https://t.co/VVfqo4P6WN
Still not sure why the research agenda matters?
Let me explain, there are VERY few researchers in the #Bitcoin space. Part of that is due to Bitcoin being so new, but also because there are not proper incentives to drive #Bitcoin research.
This research agenda aims to fix those incentives!
This new peer-reviewed paper was used to get industry input which is VERY important because industry experts work on #Bitcoin every day so they know the technology best. However, industry does not always understand the needs of lawmakers and their staff.
Fortunately, the follow-up paper to this one will involve going straight to lawmakers around the country and asking them what research they need in order to make well informed decisions on #Bitcoin.
Understanding the research needs of lawmakers and industry is critical information for building better incentives.
Said another way... Knowing the research needs of industry and policy professionals is like jet fuel to researchers!
WHY?
Researchers generally seek two things: career advancement and real-world-impact which come hand-in-hand. This means if we can show a demand for #Bitcoin research by lawmakers, there will be a VERY strong incentive for researchers to focus on #Bitcoin research.
When a lawmaker uses research as the basis for their policy decisions (ex. making a new law) it acts as a HUGE boost to a researchers career because their research was used to make that decision.
Boom. We just fixed the incentives for more #Bitcoin research!
HOWEVER, I am worried about one thing!
Once this agenda is fully developed, I am concerned there will be a flood of new researchers looking to focus on #Bitcoin, but no one to help fund them!
This is where I am counting on you!
@SatoshiEducate is in the perfect position to help researchers get their work across the finish line, but we can only help a limited number of researchers.
Please help us fund #Bitcoin research by giving: $10, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $5,000 or any amount you choose https://t.co/VVfqo4P6WN
If we raised $50,000 we would be able to fund critical research on #Bitcoin that will change hearts and minds on this technology and speed up mass adoption.
If we raised $100,000 for research we could produce a huge outflow of #Bitcoin papers and articles, likely shifting the narrative on #Bitcoin drastically!
