I’m making this long tweet with sadness in my heart, because the level of ignorance we’re witnessing in this country is becoming unbearable. Someone needs to call it out.
Despite the insecurity, despite the countless lives lost, despite properties destroyed and dreams shattered, someone still found the audacity to compare a gay child to a terrorist. And you want to tell me “it’s not that deep”? No. It is that deep.
Because why would that even cross anyone’s mind in the first place? How do you make that kind of comparison in a country bleeding every day? It doesn’t make sense, not one bit.

You often wonder why I don’t flinch at what the government is doing to us. It’s not because it doesn’t affect me, and it’s definitely not because I’m better off. The truth is simple: Nigerians have normalised ignorance and we keep enabling ignorance.

Every day we’re battling insecurity. People are dying on the roads, in their homes, in places they once believed were safe. Communities are wiped out, families are traumatised, livelihoods vanish overnight. And instead of society focusing on that collective tragedy, someone finds the energy, the creativity, and the wickedness to compare a gay child! a child, an innocent human being to a terrorist.

How do you even think like that?
And then you have people brushing it off, saying, “It’s not that deep.” But that’s exactly the problem. In this country, people have lost the ability to think deeply about anything, except oppression. Oppression, we analyse. Hate, we justify. Violence, we tolerate. But empathy? Humanity? Basic reasoning? Suddenly everyone goes blank.

In case we have forgotten, A terrorist is someone who destroys lives. Who spreads fear. Who kills without remorse. A gay child is… a child. Full stop. A human being whose only crime is existing outside someone else’s narrow box. To put both in the same sentence is not just foolishness; it is cruelty mixed with ignorance.

It shows how misplaced our priorities are as a nation. Real terrorists are out there ending lives daily, but some Nigerians are more disturbed by who someone loves or how someone identifies. You can’t fix a country with that level of mental backwardness. You simply can’t.

This is why I don’t flinch anymore. Because our biggest problem isn’t the government. It’s the people who think like this. The people who keep empowering incompetence. The people who fear progress. The people who mock pain and defend stupidity with confidence.

So no, don’t tell me it’s not that deep. It is that deep. It’s exactly why this country is the way it is.

And it still doesn’t make sense. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.
