You won’t automatically die, public sector oncology is free at the point of use for SA citizens, and places like Steve Biko Academic hospital treat a lot of uninsured patients. The big issues are delays, travel costs and side effects that can feel worse than the disease itself. CANSA and other charities help with a lot of hidden burdens (transportation, food and counselling) . Worth reaching out to them early if this is close to home.
