I swear back in the day non block buster films played in theaters a lot longer than they do now. It’s frustrating for folks who can’t watch movies opening weekend. I don’t mind watching it on streaming but it’s like damn, you couldn’t even give me a chance to see it in a theater.
People are watching Scary Movie wrong, you’re supposed to get high, wear hoodies and big bags, sneak in snacks, and eat movie nachos and laugh at the nonsense of it all.
Also, it seems like misguided to demand lower standards (out of affection I understand and relate to!) and say that something you enjoy is only enjoyable out of your right mind.
@hungryfuturian It would actually be very illuminating to see anyone make the argument that Tubi is the new frontier for Black film/television, I might be convinced
This movie might be a cilantro thing for people, but I really loved it. It makes the isolation and escapism of the internet and scaring yourself in general so tactile and sad. Kind of a similar "it's not me" scene to Obsession too, honestly scarier imho
@72Person@TWlTTERHAVER Neuroticism is caring to an unhealthy degree, usually manifesting as overthinking that leads to inaction. It becomes a cycle of mental pain. It's not bad at all to care, but being stressed doesn't solve a problem.
(Austin Powers game tutorial level)
Austin: Wait a tick. When’s the last time I opened my shag bag?
Basil: Good thinking, Austin! Why not press ⭕️ and check your inventory?
Austin: I do pride myself in pressing the right buttons, don’t I? YEAH, BABY.
My most insane belief is probably that photos of people are evil but videos are fine. I have to say "probably" because I'll think of something crazier soon
Martin Scorsese is like 125 years old, stop shoving your opinions on him, he has done 100× more for cinema than entire film twitter combined, take a walk.
I get where Ebert is coming from, but if something as puerile as a Wayans movie can defang your nascent movie revolution, anything could have taken you down
Also I'm not sure I agree with the idea that Mel Brooks is a parallel to what the Wayans were doing here. I think frequent little segments and asides reinforcing/mocking stereotypes are not the same as concentrating your comedy within those stereotypes
