When I was in Cologne in 2006 for the World Cup, the Germans were exceptional in understanding our humour in general and this chant in particular.

One night, a group of Germans came to us and asked what we were chanting and, after explaining, they stood in the middle of us with their arms out, like planes, before rolling on the floor when we sung “the RAF from England shot one down.”

The rest of the evening was spent arm in arm singing, buying each other drinks, chatting and sharing the atmosphere together. 🇩🇪 🤝🏼 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
