Practical and pragmatic solutions for releasing the North’s biggest rail bottleneck. #GetTheNorthMoving🚄🇬🇧 From the North, for the North. DM for Enquiries.
@AdnanHussainMP We will however continue to champion better links across the North, including East Lancashire.
SELRAP have a notable campaign to extend services to Skipton and Leeds from Colne, creating an additional transpennine link.

@AdnanHussainMP Hi Adnan,
To clarify, the graphic included is our own "CrossNorth" alternative which we've been promoting since 2022.
The government's plans will run via Piccadilly only, with the phasing structure noted.
The cross-city tunnel and Salford Interchange are not included in that.
@jruddy99@labourball Hi John,
For added clarification, the underground line depicted is from our own #CrossNorth proposal on integrating NPR through Manchester.
The plan released today does not mention, or imply any such connection.
🚨#NorthernPowerhouseRail plans finally revealed.
Phase 1: Yorkshire upgrades
Phase 2: New Liverpool line via Manchester Airport
Phase 3: Better Manchester–Yorkshire links
Earliest delivery: 2045.
❌Castlefield chokepoint stays for 20+ years.
Viable alternatives ignored.
👉From here on we will no longer be campaigning for #CrossNorth given the Government's confirmed programme.
✅We will however continue to hold all governments to account in delivering what has been promised today.

Great to see GBR branding rolling out, creating a unified and accountable identity for Britain’s railways!
But the designs lack legibility for visually impaired passengers, and don’t distinguish inter-city from regional services. We hope the government addresses this urgently.
📢Ask of Govt:
Commission an independent options assessment that drops the HS2-era via-airport assumption and tests alternatives like CrossNorth on their own merits.
Certainty beats slogans. The North *needs* Certainty!
🚄#GetTheNorthMoving
We’ve been stuck on a map that no longer exists. The old NPR “via airport” idea leaned on #HS2 track into Manchester.
HS2 north of Birmingham was cancelled and the Crewe–Manchester Bill is being repurposed. But you can’t plan a network around a missing spine..
Build it modular and bank wins:
1⃣ The core tunnel + stations (8-10tph intercity through).
2⃣ A new line West linking Liverpool, Cumbria, Chester & N. Wales.
3⃣ A new line East via Bradford to Leeds with freight relief. No HS2 crutch; just a workable northern backbone.
@IsaacJBJones Details regarding speed are unclear at this point.
We do know journey times are expected to be less than today.
Factoring in the more “roundabout” route, to achieve this it’d likely need to be between 125mph & 140mph.
🚆Today the case is being made in Westminster for the new “Liverpool and Manchester Railway” ahead of a decision in June.
👉It’s vital that the homework has been done, the data presented, and the operational/economic benefits clearly stated.
Let’s get this right.
⏱️ A new Liverpool-Manchester Railway would significantly reduce journey times between the two cities.
🛤️ The line would run from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Piccadilly with stops at:
📍A new Liverpool Gateway
📍Warrington Bank Quay
📍Manchester Airport
🐝Metro-style #BeeNetwork trains on the surface.
🚄Inter-City trains underground.
That's how we solve the Manchester bottleneck once & for all.
#Manchester#Rail
@JoshuaR35073488 @AndyBurnhamGM@BeeNetwork It certainly will in terms of frequency & reliability, however there are short-term plans by @networkrail to improve this, specifically Oxford Road.
However in the long-term a proper fix as per our plan is required to enable the entire network to run efficiently & reliably.
We're very pleased to hear the news today from @AndyBurnhamGM and @BeeNetwork that the following rail routes will be brought under local control by 2028.
✅This represents a huge first step in bridging the North-South public transport divide.
#Rail#Devolution
@_m_bradley_@AndyBurnhamGM@BeeNetwork Hi Michael,
From what we understand the main difference will be capped, more simple ticketing allowing for integrated tap in/out journeys on rail services within Greater Manchester.
This is effectively how the rail system in London works.
