Obviously a country of 1.4 billion people is going to produce a lot of very intelligent people, and the numbers are so vast that Indians have become normalized in almost every aspect of professional life across the Western world. But people look at Indian CEOs, doctors and software engineers and forget that, back in the motherland, this sort of behavior is the norm. Average IQ sub-80, and a mindset that hasn’t changed all that much since antiquity.
The honest thing to do here—the genuinely challenging thing—would be to acknowledge that it is wrong to have cows wandering the streets of cities, and that it is unethical and frankly pathetic to have live electrical wires exposed where children and animals can easily be electrocuted.
But questions like these require a baseline level of civic competence and basic standards of public order that India has never managed to develop. And that, ultimately, is why China leaves it for dust.
What actually makes it high stakes is that a thousand year old civilisation is about to be washed away by a few decades of immigration for some unarticulated reason, everything else is a sideshow
