It is genuinely disheartening to hear some older Nigerians who benefited from heavily subsidized, sometimes virtually free public education now argue that government universities should charge ₦1 million in tuition.

You climbed the ladder with government support and now that you are on the other side, you want to pull the ladder up?

Not every Nigerian today has your financial capacity. A university education should not become a privilege reserved for children whose parents can comfortably produce ₦1 million for tuition.

If the government must reform education funding, then let us have an honest conversation about efficiency, accountability, scholarships, student financing and sustainable funding not simply pricing poor and working class Nigerians out of higher education.

You benefited from a system that invested in you.

The question is: why should the next generation be denied the same opportunity?
