@JohnPapola Foundational assumption: capital creates invention.
Wrong.
People being freed from struggling to survive all the time leads to invention.
You're selling a lie from wealthy people who want to hoard what they have and take what you have.
@esjesjesj On the other hand, at the time the Odyssey was a goulash of several different time periods already; a couple of anachronisms would be on-theme, really.
(Although that makes me wanna see the Odyssey get a Knight's Tale/Baz Luhrman (sp?) adaptation and go full modern.)
@skumWgmi I have been thinking about this for a while.
You can tax wealth, but only if there aren't rich people buying influence to convince everyone that's impossible for "reasons"
@kanbar@skumWgmi@eauman123 ???
I didn't realize it was inscribed in the constitution that schools, police etc have to be paid for with a tax on real property, specifically.
Money is fungible.
@JayExci I think that's in the definition.
I grill things, but i don't think about it much beyond trying not to burn the food into inedibility. I think that's precisely the reason that you could say grilling is not a hobby of mine
All the worst people you know agree on one thing.
The far Left, the groyper Right, and Iranian state television are all celebrating the death of Lindsey Graham. Same posts. Same glee. The horseshoe has become a wedding ring.
Lindsey Graham spent 33 years in uniform, half a century in public service, and his last 48 hours on earth in Kyiv standing up for the free world. His enemies spent the day proving exactly why he fought them.
RIP.
@UgoCannon It's less important to know if a god exists, and much more important to know why i should care.
I've never seen any evidence that they have any effect on the world or anything in it
@JayExci Some people's fixation with trying to rewrite history and imply JK didn't do something special seems irrational to me.
If I can acknowledge that something hit with people and it wasn't all luck it's easier to move past that noise and focus on real conversations
All the old heads told me growing up that I would get more conservative as I got older and I went from thinking republicans were just buffoons who did stupid things but ultimately meant well to thinking they’re actually evil and are willing to do literally anything for power
@_SonOfJorEl_@CalledPal@ChrisRGun It's always funny to see someone pretending that gender has magical qualities and that the god of masculinity will smite those who reject him.
You would think an almighty being would have something better to do...
