This account documents crimes committed by the Islamic Republic: decades of state-inflicted harm, including massacres, cover-ups, preventable disasters, environmental destruction, and lives shattered by a regime that has repeatedly endangered its own people.

Imprisonment of Fatemeh Sepehri [Mashhad, ongoing]
Fatemeh Sepehri is not a prisoner of war. She is a political prisoner held in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad for open opposition to the Islamic Republic. Recent reports from her family, lawyer, and rights groups describe severe physical deterioration, denial of adequate medical care, and prison conditions that have turned dissent into prolonged physical punishment.

Bullet money from the families of the dead [Iran, 2026]
There are reports that the Islamic Republic may charge passing tankers for the Strait of Hormuz. This is not even the worst of it. After the 8-9 January 2026 massacres, families of people killed by the Islamic Republic were in some cases forced to pay extortionate sums to recover the bodies of their loved ones. Amnesty documented the withholding of bodies for money, and IranWire reported cases described as "bullet money."
The Islamic Republic did not only shoot protesters. It also turned grief into another source of coercion and profit.

Ghalibaf and the threat letter after the Tehran University crackdown [Tehran, 1999]
After the July 1999 attack on Tehran University dormitories and the student protests that followed, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was among 24 senior IRGC commanders who sent President Mohammad Khatami a threatening letter demanding harsher action. The letter warned that their patience had run out and pressed for a more forceful response to the unrest. Years later, Ghalibaf publicly defended violent repression of student unrest, showing how officials who backed the crackdown treated the university not as a civic space but as enemy ground.

Sharif University siege [Tehran, 2022]
In October 2022, the Islamic Republic turned Sharif University into a site of siege, trapping students on campus and sending security forces into one of Iran’s leading universities during the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising. Students were chased into the underground parking structure, where security forces fired pellets, paintballs, and tear gas, while families, alumni, and supporters gathered outside the university demanding that the students be allowed to leave safely.
Long before today’s strike damaged Sharif from the air, the regime had already treated the university as enemy ground.

Execution of Ali Fahim [Iran, 2026]
On 6 April 2026, the Islamic Republic executed Ali Fahim, one of the protesters arrested in the post-2022 protest crackdown and later sentenced to death in the case over the burning of a Basij site in Tehran. Amnesty International had warned that he was among a group of protesters at imminent risk of execution after grossly unfair proceedings. His killing was part of the Islamic Republic's continued use of the death penalty to turn protest into a capital crime.

Gavdaneh village grargar amputations [Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad]
In Gavdaneh village, children and residents spent years crossing the river on a crude cable device known as a grargar because there was no bridge. Again and again, hands were caught in its rusted wheel and fingers were cut off on the way to school, work, or basic daily travel. The disaster was not the river crossing itself but a state that left a village without a simple bridge and made mutilation part of ordinary life.

Kolbars and fuel carriers [Iran]
They are not casualties of war. They are kolbars and fuel carriers pushed into lethal work by poverty, exclusion, and the border economies the Islamic Republic has left in place. Some freeze on mountain routes, some burn in fuel accidents, and many are shot or wounded by military and border forces while trying to earn a living. Their deaths are not isolated tragedies but the repeated outcome of a state that turned survival itself into a punishable risk.

Baloch children mutilated while fetching water [Sistan and Baluchestan]
They were not wounded in war. In villages left without piped water in Sistan and Baluchestan, children have gone to rivers, ponds, and crocodile habitat just to bring water home, and some have lost arms in attacks by gandos. The disaster was not the animal itself but a state that left entire communities without safe water and turned a basic act of survival into a lifelong injury.

Execution of Amirhossein Hatami [Iran, 2026]
On 2 April 2026, the Islamic Republic executed 18-year-old Amirhossein Hatami, one of the protesters arrested in the post-2022 protest crackdown and later accused of involvement in the burning of a military site in Tehran. State media described him as a terrorist and enemy agent after a case handled by the Revolutionary Court system and approved by the Supreme Court. His execution formed part of a wider campaign of death sentences and executions used to turn protest into a capital crime.

Zarrjoub river pollution [Rasht]
Zarrjoub, once part of the river system that people in Rasht remembered as swimmable and full of fish, has for years carried sewage, industrial waste, and urban runoff through the city.
Officials, researchers, and local reporting have described Zarrjoub and Gohar Roud as among the most polluted rivers in Iran, with foul odors and heavy contamination reaching neighborhoods and ultimately flowing toward Anzali Lagoon. It was not sudden ruin but the long environmental result of sewage mismanagement and official neglect under the Islamic Republic.

Lahijan river sewage pollution [Lahijan]
For years, rivers and surface waterways in Lahijan have received a significant share of the city's untreated sewage. Local reporting and official statements acknowledged that urban wastewater was entering the river system and imposing environmental and treatment costs on the public. The result was not a natural decline but the long conversion of a city river into an open channel for sewage under the Islamic Republic's system of neglect.

Heyran Pass land-grabbing and deforestation [Heyran Pass]
The damage to Heyran Pass was not caused by war but by years of land-grabbing, illegal construction, and villa development in one of the greenest stretches near Iran's border with Azerbaijan. Reporting on the scandal described national land being seized, forests and pastures being converted, and politically connected figures benefiting while the landscape was cut apart. It was another case of the Islamic Republic turning protected land into private profit and permanent ecological loss.

On 4 January 2020, part of the roof of a village school in Ravang, near Minab in Hormozgan Province, collapsed while students were inside. Mothers of Laleh Park [Tehran, after 2009]
After the 2009 crackdown, mothers and families of those killed, detained, or disappeared began gathering silently each week in Tehran's Laleh Park, holding photographs of their loved ones and demanding truth, accountability, and an end to executions. Their protest became one of the most important civil acts of memory and resistance after the Green Movement. The Islamic Republic answered them with surveillance, harassment, beatings, arrests, and prison sentences.

Destruction of Shiraz's historic fabric [Shiraz]
Over the past two decades, authorities have destroyed parts of Shiraz's historic fabric under plans to expand the Shah Cheragh shrine complex. Heritage groups and researchers warned that the project would erase historic houses, displace residents, and break apart one of the most valuable surviving urban fabrics in Iran. It was not preservation or renewal but a regime-driven remaking of the city that treated historical neighborhoods as expendable.

Mashhad Kooy-e Tolab uprising [Mashhad, 1992]
On 30 May 1992, residents of the poor Kooy-e Tolab area in Mashhad rose up after authorities moved to demolish homes in the neighborhood. The unrest escalated after residents stopped the destruction and set a bulldozer on fire, and security forces then opened fire, with at least one schoolboy reported killed. The Islamic Republic crushed the uprising with live fire, mass arrests, and swift executions, turning a housing-demolition dispute into one of the earliest major urban crackdowns of the post-war period.

“Iran” is not the Islamic Republic.
One is a nation.
The other is the system that has held it hostage for decades.
Many Iranians are suffering this war. Some also see, beyond the fire and ruin, the possible end of the system that killed, censored, imprisoned, and impoverished them.
Even the “voice” now presented as “Iran’s” leadership is uncertain. Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly, and his so-called first remarks were delivered by a television presenter reading a written message, not by him in public, on video, or even in his own recorded voice.
To confuse the regime with the nation is false.
To repeat its text as Iran’s voice is worse.

Khark Island exclusion and pollution [Iran]
Kharg was maintained as a controlled oil and security zone organized around extraction and survival of the Islamic Republic. Access was restricted even to Iranian citizens. Pollution was built into its function: Reuters reported an oil spill near Kharg in October 2024 caused by leaking pipelines, and studies linked oil operations and flare combustion on the island to persistent air pollution.
During the March 2026 attacks, reports and audience accounts said oil and petrochemical workers were not allowed to leave despite the danger. Residents and workers were left with contamination, restricted movement, labor pressure, and exposure inside a space defined first by oil and strategic value. Labor grievances followed the same pattern. The Islamic Republic took the revenue and kept the control, those on the ground carried the cost.
