Proud to present my thesis about migration narratives and biopolitics in South Asia in ER&M in my senior year at Yale. I’m wearing a Jamdani saree, a textile product from Bengal (which my thesis focuses on) which was almost wiped out by British colonizers, like Elihu Yale.
My therapist asked, “Where do you feel worthy unrelated to your career?”
And I think that’s a question all of us — conditioned by job titles and grind culture — should sit with.
Anti-Asian racism isn’t un-American—it’s quintessentially American. You can’t kill millions of Asians across the Pacific for a whole ass century in the name of America and then out of nowhere say that anti-Asian racism is un-American. That’s just lying.
Can we talk about how much of a privilege it is that we get paid to think? Our job description is basically: think, read, write; teach other people to think, read, & write; create environments where people can think, read, & write.
